Moving to vaping from smoking

You simply stated that no one simply quits cold turkey, and I simply stated that you're wrong, as I myself did in fact quit cold turkey.....which in fact, literally means that you were wrong.

Since I smoked for 20 years, I guess I do in fact know what I'm talking about, and am not just "tossing off advise". Geez....maybe read through my response again before you start trying to not sound "preachy".

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. I acknowledge where you quit in my post, I was referring to some others that have posted, never having smoked.

2 packs a day for 15 years, tried a bunch of things, finally a friend told me to decide I was a nonsmoker, worked, drove around with a carton behind the seat of the truck for a couple of years without cheating.

I was an on and off smoker for years, generally 1/2 a pack or less per day. The drive to work with a cup of coffee and a Marlboro Light or two proved the Rolling Stones wrong.

It has been close to fifteen years since I have smoked but I'd start again tomorrow if I could.

My father was the consummate addict. Kicked alcohol with AA. Finally quit smoking when my daughter was born with acupuncture followed by acupressure. I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself. He had been a three pack a day guy since he was 17. He was in his mid-50s when he did this. This was 35 years ago.

It is amazing how many young people vape and have never smoked tobacco.

Watching some people walk and vape is like watching the Little Engine That Could. Step/puff step/puff step/puff.

I have never looked at a vape pipe up close. Do they build up resin internally after extended use?

I gave up chewing tobacco years ago but it was a go to in the service truck driving across the province. Nasty habit.

Same same. Perpetually sore lip, constantly craving a dip of 'Cope'. Dumb. 3 agonizing days of withdrawal to kick that habit.

I smoked Marlboros a little in college and throughout my time in the Army. Got up one Sunday morning and decided to go to church (hadn’t been in years). Out of bunk and reach in locker for a smoke…no matches and nobody else in the barracks awake. Went to church, came out of church and was going to bum a light but nobody lighting up. Went to the base snack bar for breakfast and they always had a box of book matches next to the register…not that day. After breakfast looking around for a light…nobody smoking. I was thinking about quitting any way as I was a getting out soon and heading back to the states where cigarettes were a whopping 50¢ a pack. I could currently buy 3 cartons per month at 20¢ a pack in the PX overseas. I got back to my barracks and decided since I had gone all morning without one I would quit. It wasn’t easy but never had another one. I still have the pack that was in my pocket in 1970 when I quit!

When this thread was resurrected, I figured it would be somebody pointing out the hazards of inhaling any foreign substance or aerosol into one's lungs.
My daughter has smoked for years. I suspect she has ADHD, which as some have pointed out, can be somewhat controlled with nicotine. About a year ago, she switched to vaping. I still worry about the long term affects on her health, but she seems to be functioning better.
I haven't smoked in over 50 years, but I remember some nights closing the restaurant at midnight and craving a cigarette as members of my crew were lighting up as clean up began.

When I met my wife she was 17. Her girlfriend’s father was trying to quit so he cut a bunch of dowels the size of a cigarette and then got addicted to those. Never saw him without one in his mouth! Hardest time for me was sitting around with the guys having a beer and they were all smoking.

I smoke 5 cigs a day. 2 going to work, 2 coming home from work and 1 right before going to bed. Days off from work, I will smoke 1 cigarette before going to bed for the night, and that's it. I don't really know why I smoke anymore. I don't really crave a cigarette ever or have a "nic-fit." The only thing is, if I have some drinks, then I want a cigarette, so I also just don't have drinks as much anymore either.

In a situation like you describe, I suspect it's more habit than anything else. You're used to doing it, and so it's mentally automatic for you to do.

I think that vaping could be healthier than smoking if the "juice" was good. I suspect a lot or most of the juice out there is not created with an eye toward health. I suspect there's little to no regulatory oversight into the creation of the juice. I suspect there's a bunch of dangerous juice coming out of China.

As a non-smoker, it certainly smells better and isn't as gross as cigarettes or cigars.

10 years later, I’m still vaping. Still alive. Still have my doubts that vaping is safe. Still wonder how the sugars in vaping impacts my diabetes and wish I never started smoking when I was a kid. I wish I could just grow a pair and knock it off with this crap but at the end of the day, I have not touched a cig in over 10 years and I am happy about that

I smoke 29 years since the age of 13. Most of the time 2 packs per day or more. The past few years it was costing me $600 per month to smoke in New York

Been totally cigarette free for 13 months since I started taking vaping seriously.

While I doubt vaping is 100% safe, nothing can be worse than sucking down 40 or more cigs a day....and then I have to consider as well, the amount of time at work I spent standing outside in the rain not being productive, burning holes in the car seats, annoying my friends, worrying my mother, forgoing healthy food that costs more than pizza because I need to spend the money on cigs, extreme paranoia every time I see a spot in my throat, constant bronchitis...on and on all from smoking

I dont get out much but I've noticed a new migration from vape to nicotine pouches such as zyn. Not sure where they fall on the harm reduction scale, but they are so covert I think they get used with very high duty cycle by some folks

I'm not sure about the safety of vaping either, but I think it's likely safer or can be than smoking tobacco.

The couple of guys that I used to work with that got heavily into vaping (this was probably nearly 10 years ago) were vaping with juice that didn't have nicotine (at least that's what they told me). I don't know if they're still vaping or not. I often wondered, at least with one of them if they were using vape juice with THC content.

Your situation kind of seems like the definition of moderation.

For folks who are addicted to nicotine, it would be interesting to know how much of the use is self medicating and helping to protect them from worse "products". Then maybe it becomes the safest way to get it. My guess is history will show that vaping is also pretty dangerous. Especially is started young in life. I dated a woman several years back who had quit smoking years prior but still chewed nicotine gum. Zyn's have become popular. What would be the safest way to deliver nicotine?
