Boxster highs and lows

Saturday, we went to have lunch with the kids for Father's day. It was a beautiful day and we took the Boxster. Shortly after we left to meet them, I noticed I was about to turn a small milestone, 30,000.

Friday, I'd gotten the car back from the dealer for some minor work (had them adjust the top a bit and replace a tail light lens that was losing it's color internally). It's CPO until this fall, so the work was free. They washed it like they do, so it was looking great.

We went to lunch and on the way home, the missus asked to stop by a store with cheap stuff for your home decoration needs. We went in, wandered around 15-20 mins and came back out with what we needed. When I went to put it in the trunk, I discovered that my car had been keyed apparently by Zorro, because it looks like a Z. It was in one of the first parks closest to the door. Fortunately, it's not too deep or too large. It's on the trunk lid only. My wife was much more upset about it than me. I'm certainly not happy, but I think it's probably a good thing that I didn't catch them, because I'm not sure what I'd have done, but it may have attracted the attention of the authorities. I'll get it painted, and hopefully it won't be more than $500.

Still, hasn't really changed that I love the car, and had a great day with the family.

Now I just have to find a good shop to do the paint.

Yeah, definitely sucks. I'm just glad they didn't get the whole side front fender, door, rear fender or anything like that.

Nothing I can do about it now but move forward, so I'm trying to be very Zen about it.

Bah. That sucks. Only silver lining is that it's only the deck lid. Easy fix for a competent paint guy. They might even be able to come out and do it.

And just so we are clear on the matter, I am utterly jealous of your car. Red leather + arctic silver = to die for.

In San Diego, someone who was walking their dog took the poop bag and smeared it all over the front of my 911SC. I was in a terrible rush to go to a 7AM meeting and had to call my wife to wash it off before it ruined the finish.

People suck!

Yes people suck... But you have a Boxter and I'd bet the person that did this will never have a comparable car.

It's actually GT Silver, not Artic Silver. The same silver they painted the Carrera GT...

I'm still surprised people do this. Best of luck to you.

The last time my car was keyed, I was living in a third world country. It's too bad that it happens here too.

I think some people do that because they think you are well off and drive an expensive "Porsh". You might be a prick as well.

The crazy thing is Boxsters are so cheap that they make an inexpensive two seat alternative to just about anything. Unfortunately a Porsche equates to "rich guy".

Zoe walked out of the classroom, her head and heart hung low. She knew she had failed the final test. Her perm didn't curl, rollers got stuck and her "customer" screamed, and someone turned off her styling iron, probably Betty, she was such a b itch. Zoe hated Betty.

Well, I might as well return that vase, she thought, crossing the street to the discount home decorating store she wandered through every day after school, looking at things for her own future beauty salon. Can't afford it and it just didn't go well with the kitchen wallpaper. Never going to have a salon either, the thought crept through her head as she stepped up on the sidewalk.

Walking across the parking lot she spied her dream car, a beautiful silver Porsh Boxster. She loved that car and wasn't alone, she and her classmates talked endlessly about what color they would get, what options, did they need an S or was the base engine good enough...

Getting closer, the red interior glowed in the sunlight. She loved it, it was exactly the car she would get. B O X S T E R Sssss she read out, letting the S languish on her tongue. I would love this car.

Staring so intently at it, Zoe didn't notice the old lady walking a herd of weiner dogs, running this way and that, their leashes tangling as they dragged the old lady for a walk. Maybe it was the scent of hairspray, or that her cat had made a nest on her blouse the night before, but all of sudden 6 little dogs were all about her, yapping and jumping up on her legs.

Startled, she stepped back, her heel lightly hitting a dog, which sent her springing forward, tripping over another, she flopped heavily on the trunk lid, her left cheek absorbing the blow even though right hand glanced across the lid, her keys digging a crude horizontal line in the paint, the broach, a gift from her great aunt, cutting a similar diagonal across the bright silver expanse. Pulling herself up and off the car she was horrified on what she had done. Just then, one of the dogs lunged at her, missing her by a hair, but not the car, one of its paws finishing the artwork on the trunk lid. Looking back, it was a big Z, there was no mistaking it. Z for Zoe, who would never get a Boxster now and would have to keep waitressing at that dump across town. She started to cry but her tears quickly turned to fury as she heard the old woman harassing her for getting in the way of her dogs.

The nerve, she growled under her breath. In one quick motion, Zoe grabbed one of the leashes and swung it around, the little weiner dog attached at the other end yowling in disbelief. Weiner dogs don't fly, it thought as it hit the old woman, the one who fed him every day, and someday gave him treats, he loved treats, on the head, knocking her down.

What have I done, exclaimed Zoe! And with that she knew she had to get out of there, and fast. Picking up her vase which miraculously had not been broken, she

Tell me about it! I drove a $13K Hyundai that I dubbed "the invisamobile" because no one every looked at it (got passed by CHP while doing 80 mph) whereas I would get varying attitude (some positive.. some not) when driving the 944.

Just dropped $10K on a Nissan Veras... could have picked up a decent Boxster for that

But Nooooo... I had to be responsible and do the adult thing and buy something practical

Those damn weiner dogs!!!

I notice that people act really weird around Porsches. Especially other drivers. Some lady in a minivan tried to run me down and cut in front of the Cayman S from wayyy back. I was like "what's this chick trying to do?". I slowly realized that she was being rather rude. I had to dispense some throttle pedal justice to put her back in her place. A short hard blip put me comfortably ahead, in a nice paint safe buffer zone. Bet she would have loved to key your car too, for my transgression.

Funny and odd story, Shaun. Thanks.

Yep, people suck. My motto is usually more like "people are stupid", but now it seems like I have to change it to "people suck and are stupid"

Any chance there are lot cameras? Probably a long shot, but it would be sweet justice to catch the assclown on camera, and be able to make out the plates on the car as they left...

As HD mentioned, if there is any silver-lining, it's that it was isolated to just one (reasonably easy to R&R) panel. So, it should be a pretty easy and relatively inexpensive job for a good paint guy.

My uncle had a Ferrari that he didn't have much luck with either. In it's first week of ownership he drove out to his friend's farm to show off the new car. After him and his buddy finished their coffees they went outside to admire the car and found the farmer's pet goats climbing around on it. Then after a paintjob he went to see a physio in one of those small white trash towns that you get around the place. When he came out someone had scratched the word Wan*** on it. Quite correct but nevertheless needless vandalism.

I think cameras that could get any quality video or really any cameras at all are very unlikely.

Yep, silver lining, is definitely that it should be a relatively painless fix
