They have a pretty decent auto buying program. They play the dealers against each other and hardball them into some uncomfortable prices. Then again, it's easy for the dealer to cheat on the program if they're not aware of all the incentives.

haha That's what I did when I bought the mk6 tdi. Received the costco no haggle price from a couple of the local dealers. (same price) My wise ass started thinking. I used the Costco price as a starting line and bargained another 2 grand off of that... I didn't get the exact color I wanted, but I guess they didn't want to let go of the blues at that price.
go figure

However, I don't understand how they can have those highly optioned 1/2 ton Silverado's out front by the entrance, and ask 55K. That's 3/4-1 ton diesel pricing.

Totally agree, I love Costco. Great return policy on almost everything and they've even got some decent cheap grub made.

My favorite buy at Costco is lobster claws, 2lbs for $18. They vary in size but generally get 4-7 claws in each 2lb bag which is about perfect. A little clarified butter, some nice bread and a salad = an excellent dinner for 4 for less than fast food money. Lobster claws, mmmmmm.

Anywhere else I find them they are tiny and generally more per lb. They do run out of them a lot though so I usually buy 3-4 bags when they are in.

Got six fat ribeyes for $30 or $5 ea. Each later made two fried beef sandwiches with a little sauteed red pepper onion and cheese, dang good sandwich for about $3.

I go through shoes like nothing and their tennis shoes are about $20-25. That adds up.

Bulk rice is super cheap in the large bags compared to the supermarket.

Sanpellegrino Italian sodas are $15/24 instead of $1/ea. Tart and tasty on hot days. They don't bloat me like the corn syrup ones.

Coffee is $6/lb instead of $8+/12oz.

Sam's Club has business member hours so I can go in at 0700 and be out by 0715, prior to the great unwashed rolling out of bed.

I think losing Costco was a $1 billion hit to Amex. They had layoffs because of it.

I haven't been to Costco's HQ, but I've heard they have a sign in their waiting room for all vendors there to make a sales pitch that says something to the effect that they expect to get the best deal vendors can offer, and, if they later find out someone else is getting better terms, that vendor will be dropped and blacklisted.

FWIW, I only go to Costco on my motorcycle, so I can only buy exactly what I went there for, which is usually bourbon.

Do you shop at Costco? If so what are your thoughts?

Btw, I think this is stealing.

Yes I agree vash that is like stealing and I do not endorse this kind of behavior.
However it is great to know that a product can be returned readily if it is defective and get a replacement right away as opposed to shipping it, being without the product until it is returned.

I'm sure they did, personally I hated amex paying them was a pain as I could only pay them by cheque. MC I can pay at my bank, machine or on line.

Right now in Canada wallymart is fighting visa over their high fees, they say they are giving visa the boot. Three WM stores have stopped taking visa with more to come.

I believe I can think of one food item they lost money on and dropped it. That was the ice cream bar on a stick, dipped in chocolate, & rolled in nuts for $1.45. I was really sorry to see that disappear.

I used to buy 6 of them and throw it in the freezer. I would finish a bar in 3 sittings.

Costco + 1

Scams Club - major zero

Sams Club offers low end product, price leaders. But even so, their whole goods prices are easily beat and groceries are no specials, of which SHOULD be better when buying bulk.

Years back, purchased a Canon fax machine from Sam's. It crapped out and we returned it without issue. Told the clerk its BAD, and the issue is not about being dissatisfied. They placed it on a shelf in a cage. An hour later it was back on the retail shelf. LOL Sams suck

One that our household is using more often is Amazon / prime membership. Very impressed.

??? I've been paying them online for years. I'm keeping it as a back-up.

The reason AE lost the account is they wanted to charge a yearly fee on top of the Costco one.

How is this stealing?

Costco is a club that requires you to pay a membership fee to join. One of the benefits of paying that fee is the ability to take advantage of their very liberal return policy, which is something Costco actively promotes. If you are paying for that privilege, how is that stealing?

I was up early this morning - couldn't sleep, really.

I opened this thread and I am frankly really surprised. I had no idea that Costco offered so many services. I spent over an hour on their website looking at the various services.

While the closest store is 35 miles away, I may join for some of the services they offer - rental cars, payroll, etc.

Amazing.

I had no idea.

Apparently none of you are as old and beat up as I. Costco's eye exams and opticals are very reasonably priced AND if you eventually need hearing aids, check them out.

How do you know when you will need hearing aids ?? your wife or ?? will tell you in no uncertain terms that if you say "what" one more time .....
