WTF does that mean? My Costco is local and all of their employees are too. What can I buy at Costco that I can also buy at some mom and pop shop? I can't think of one thing. A case of motor oil? A case of orange juice? A case of wine? A gun safe? A big screen tv? I don't know of any non-chain stores that sell that stuff anywhere near where I live. Maybe they exist in some small town with a general store, but not in big urban areas. We have nothing but big box stores and national chains.

I am also a Costco fan. We could( now because of Brexit the £-$ rate is so bad. maybe not) buy US goods(ie mostly Chinese made items) at not much more than they cost in the US.
And the food samples are great, and the cafeteria is great value( yes its junk food but we only eat it once every couple of months so its not going to turn us in blubber)

I feel a bit sorry for their vendors. We used to sell them our products, but they'd come back at us every year and demand that we sell at cheaper and cheaper prices. We suspected that they were getting ready to source a similar product under their Kirkland label. So we cut them off for a higher margin buyer.

I have bought things on Costco.com, which can be good. But the last time, I bought a Simpson Water Blaster pressure washer. The Costco ad showed it with mag wheels. It came with steel wheels. I basically had to threaten and harass Simpson until they shipped me the wheels shown in the ad. I'll bet they sold that pressure washer at a loss due to the second set of wheels. Costco buys that cheaply.

I thought venders "hit the big leagues" when they sell stuff to Costco?

I might have heard this on that Costco documentary. Can't remember.

On a side note. The wildest and busiest Costco I've been in is the one in Taipei. It's like running a gauntlet.

Hard to have much respect for a business that over-pays the help.
Nice very ill informed comment. Costco's compensation structure goes back their beginnings. I was there. Their first CFO is still there 30+ years later.

They pay well for one reason, to create loyalty with their employees and retain them as long as possible. Turnover costs money and they've known that all along.

There is another reason, well paid employees are good consumers.

In Canada the $1000 seems to be a fixed additional rebate, after you have made your best deal.

Yes way...

Always alternate between Lincoln and Ford. This month flavour is Ford.

Back in 2012, when I got my last MKX, after all negotiation said and done, I let them print the contract and while I was going over it, I said "btw I got a Costco card"... I later sign the second contract

Agree! As a supplier to Costco, I can say that they can be very difficult to deal with. They nickel and dime us to death and we don't make a penny. However, having Costco as a customer gets us business elsewhere that would be difficult to obtain otherwise.

Love Costco, have been using them since they were Price Club. In northern VA we had 3 of them within half an hour. Down here the closest one was Charleston, 2 hours north. Now we have one in Pooler (Savannah) an hour south. Yahoo!
