Relocating to Springfield, MO
My oldest is moving down there for his first professional job.
He's getting some relocation help from his employer, but I thought someone on here might be some help. He'll need a place to live. He's working in the northeast, but I get the impression that's not the best neighborhood. Thanks Guys!

I don't live in Springfield nor do I have any ties to this city. It is a part of my sales territory so I have a little 'feel' for the city. My impression is that the better neighborhoods are in the east side off Hwy 65. Lots of newer brick-house suburb type neighborhoods; if that is what he's interested in. Nothing special about the city but there are plenty of excellent lakes and the Ozark mountain are just south of the city. Good place for outdoors men and lake people. Very low cost of living. If it were me, I'd move southeast of the city and get some land in the ozarks.

My wife was raised in Marshfield (Route 66), 1/2 hr east on I-44. Been there a lot. Suburbs close to the NE would be Fair Grove and Strafford. Both small towns and close by. Real Estate is dirt cheap there......A great drive is Hwy 125 south from Strafford, At the Ark state line, take the free ferry ride to Peel and back home thru Branson/Table Rock Lake.

Very pretty part of the USA, the Ozark Mountains are beautiful and have some superb driving roads. If he likes the outdoors it's tough to beat the hunting, fishing, hiking, and boating in that area. Table Rock Lake isn't far and is one of the cleanest lakes you'll find. I just got back from Lake of the Ozarks a few weeks ago which is farther away but still not far. It has the original Bass Pro Shop which is huge. You might have to deal with the occasional redneck but overall it's not a bad place.

Dated a girl who had a home in Marshfield, Bob.
She was a sales rep for a animal pharm co and went all over the state. She gave me a couple tours and I came away with a whole new appreciation for the state. As has been mentioned, the Bass Pro Shop is very cool plus the Branson area and Eureka Springs in AR are wonderful areas to visit. Truly a part of our flyover nation....

Bas Pro=Started by the Johnny Morris Family in the back room of one of his Brown Derby Liquor stores. Cousins husband was their HVAC Foreman. Couisn rented a house on 5 acres right in town from that was old family home. Morris had 14 liquor stores, and the MagTag franchise, Tracker Boats and then Bass Pro. We've stayed at their home on Lake Tanneycomo right in Branson, Been on their house boat they keep at a dock on a 8 acre parcel on Table Rock Lake a few miles out of town. Lots to do in the area.

Eureka Springs is a beautiful quaint little artsy fartsy place PLUS it hosts an annual Porsche Palooza each fall! 100's of cars from all over attend. Great roads, nice folks and plenty of P-cars. What's not to like. Spgfld isn't bad. Good ol boys and girls. It also has 3 VERY highline used car dealers; Michael Wilhoit Porsche, Premier Sportscars and Motorcars Int'l. They all like being there due to it being just about in the center of he US. I'll actually be there tomorrow for the day. Need anything?

Springfield is kind of an odd "semi-large" town. It is spread out all over the place and doesn't really have what I would call a downtown. Things are spread out all over town. As others have pointed out, it is a great part of Missouri to live in if you like the outdoors. Decent college there. However, there are lots of old people and they take their Baptist religion seriously.

South and SE are the places to live. Stay away from large apartment complexes for the most part. There are plenty of nice houses for rent. There are also a couple of nice apartment complexes (The Abbey and Kelly Green, for example) that offer amenities and are in desirable locations. Contact me if you need more info, I used to be a realtor and property manager here in Springfield.
