I had the opportunity to buy a Ruf about 8 years or so ago for $40k. I didn't because it was a cab...

As a whole, all aircooled prices have been deflating for at least a year or two now.

As have sports cars in general.
The $50,000 Ferrari 328 sold on BaT is a good example. That was a $75,000 car 2 years ago. |

I think there was a large hedge into "collector" cars to offset a potential market crash that didn't occur.(yet).
The investors want back into the market, and are selling those collector cars they bought. Randy P, have you considered a Jaguar XK? A bit more plastic, and less leather and metal, but similar car overall. The XK/XKR has better metrics that appeal to the head, the Aston Martin has more heart throb factor. |

Eeh- I feel like i'm settling for an XK..the Vantage is the ideal. Then again you're right, it would save much headache when it eventually breaks. I'm looking for a keeper, again. at least that's how I'm justifying this purchase, again.
it's gonna be a few, I need to get into it right, not right now. I'm pacing myself and taking a long time... rjp

Sure PorchAG is the premier marque of the elite, but didn't it arise from initially being the premier marque of the poor?
(i.e: VW/KDF/peoples car/garage startup/rags to riches/etc) Could be wrong but I remember reading about Porsche's lower cost model-offerings having saved the company bacon more than once (i.e.: 914/924/944/Cayenne). So more public accessibility, leads to more sales, leads to exposure, leads to more interest, leads to continuation of the marque? |

The Vantage is much smaller on the inside, and less carry room. I really want both, I have carry needs such that I bought the XK, and I think wishful thoughts about the Vantage. Each car presents different strong points, and they do not completely overlap. The Vantage is like a car designed by German's, that then ended up getting interfered with by crazy Italians. The Jaguar feels very "American", sort of like a fancy roomy Camaro with a spiced up exterior and interior. If you really want horse power, just go for the 5.0 XKR over the Vantage. The raw grunt of the XKR's engine is not matched in the Vantage. The XK/XKR is a decent primary car, the Aston is a stretch to do the same, while they both share similar engine architecture, the maintenance schedules and ease of parts supply are not the same. |

It's a thought- I'm looking at both but, the Vantage is, well a Vantage. I would even consider a lower miles XKR with a gearshift..
Can't be the lines of the Aston tho....That's what's doing it.

With your further information I'd say stick your focus to the Aston Martin. The Jaguar while better in several respects, will not match what you seem to specifically want.

I saw that too Shaun. I think the only cars really holding their bubble level values are the exceptional collector type cars. Everything else, like this 930 that looks to be a nice driver, is coming back to earth. Sadly I don't think we'll ever see a nice driver quality air cooled coupe for $20k, but they aren't a $60k car either.

No way I could afford the maintenance on this but it is interesting: 1981 Ferrari 308 GTSi | Bring a Trailer Pretty sure I will end up in a P-car or some Japanese GT car. Of course the odd ball in me would love something like this, but I'm guessing parts are rather difficult to find: http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-lancia-flavia/

1980 Saab-900 - BaT
I never liked this color but if I had the time and space would love to scoop this one up for grins. With a freshly minted DL in 1980 I test drove a brand new Saab 99 turbo and a black 900 turbo when that was released a year or two later. |
