Should not suck air from the house... that's against fire code anyway.

So, if it's 130 in the attic and 120 outside there in Dismal, kind of a waste of money.
WHen I had a home here in Houston, it would get up to 140° in the attic while being 90-100° outside. I had a ridgevent, but the house had a hip roof so I believe it was inadequate for the type of roof that I had.

Not my old roof, just pics from the Internet.

I believe a solar attic fan or gable fan would be a good thing in a very sunny, hot environment as long as you have the proper intake and exhaust sizing and locations.

Your photo depicts my intention.
Blowing air through new garage attic, into existing garage attic, into house attic, and out the gable vent at the other end of the house.

Garage
Some here may remember I had my house re-roofed recently with aluminum standing seam panels.

I have a gable roof with vents on both gable ends.

When we re-roofed, we removed 3 fixed roof vents so now the gable end vents are all I have.

I anticipate the aluminum - which is silver in color, BTW - will help reduce how much heat is collected in my attic.

But I'm still thinking about adding a thermostatically controlled gable vent fan on one end to help suck out hot air while pulling fresh air in from the opposite end.

I read all the previous posts but am still not sure what the collective thinking is on doing something like this.

This is the unit I'm considering using:

Cool Attic CX1500 Gable Mount Power Attic Ventilator with 2.6-Amp 60-Hz Motor and 14-Inch Blade

Only $69.25 and the reviews on it are very good, in case it's of interest. Lot of photos too, which are always helpful.

Thoughts?

PS - What ever happened to Don? He was a good dOOd.....
