Texted with an friend that lives in the keys. He has two cars locked up in shipping containers. His biggest worry is the containers will float away. He has every chain and anchor he can find on the containers.

Lemme ask, as of now (11 pm Houston time), Google maps shows basically no traffic on the highways. Is the evacuation complete, or are the maps underestimating the traffic? I live there for a year through 2 hurricanes, I know Floridians hate to evac, but this is even worse that Floyd (was going to be).

I have family in Ft Myers that is staying in a 3rd floor condo, I wonder if they should really take this last chance to move out while the roads are clear...

I am fearful for the safety of your friends in the keys. it looks dire. I will keep them all in my prayers.

My wife and son are on their way to Greensboro NC. My son has a friend there.

The windows are thin at the resort and large and there are no shutters. The resort did not charge them for the room for their overnight stay. They are in SC at the moment. I am so proud of them because they are not road trippers.

If they are not high enough the containers will be severely flooded. Best of luck to him.

No way out now. If, like me, you had to stay for work, there is no gas in basically the whole state. FL is so far north to south you can drive up, there'll be nowhere to stay, and the storm will head right up 75 after you. Might as well hunker down.

It's headed right for Marco and Naples, where I live. Marco Island might not exist after the 12 ft storm surge.

I lived in Naples (Royal Harbor) back in the early 90's....hate to see the storm headed your way, Soren.

You're dead on about the gas situation. IMHO, as a state, we are still terrible about how to properly evacuate in case of an impeding hurricane.

Hunker down and take care of yourself, sir....

My in-laws are n Boynton and were supposed to be on Long Island this weekend.

Their place is post Andrew, all cinder block with tied down roof and foundation, full storm shutters, the works and they are 2-3 miles from the water.

They canceled so they could "keep the house safe"

On Thursday they started realizing that may have been a bad idea.

My wifes sisters in-laws have a place in Sarasota.

She reasoned that trying to get North would be a disaster and convinced her parents to head over and hole up in Sarasota.

My in-laws pack up and bug out.

Apparently the Sarasota house is all glass, no garage, no storm shutters and is a block off the beach AND Irma is now headed straight for Sarasota.

Yesterday they call, they are high tailing it back to Boynton.
