Neither the OP nor anyone else knows where Amazon is going to put its new facility, but Detroit would have been a pretty colid contender if it had decent public transit, which it doesn't - the writer does indeed have a point. This is entirely separate from the question of whether it *should* be a contender - I don't think it would have suited the city well to spend $$$$ on public subsidies for Amazon.

I'm not so sure about Denver.

Don't they get snowed in a lot and the airport is force to close?

Roads and mountain passes close too?

As an arctic cold front moved southwestward into the Denver area Sunday morning, temperatures varied wildly across the metropolitan area. Places just ahead of the front touched 60 degrees while locations just a few miles away plummeted into the 20s. Low clouds and dense fog moved in with the cold air.

Atlanta seems to be the most connected.

Hard to believe anywhere is more violent than Chicago, but congratulations Detroit.

Detroit is again the most violent city in the USA

DETROIT — Detroit regained the title as the most violent big city in America in 2016, witnessing more murders last year than Los Angeles, which has four times as many people, according to new FBI crime figures released Monday.
But I'm sure it would make a lovely home for Amazon.

+1 on Pittsburgh. Carnegie Tech, center for autonomous driving, lots of tech there now, good mass transportation, and a foodie destination

The disputes in the numbers sound like: hey only 8,000 people were knocked on the head not 9,000 ..........are not strong arguments.

I know the Southfield area in the article I linked to, helped in the design and construction drawings for the white metal arches at the entries at Northland almost 30 years ago, and last year was looking at a building across the street for a client, so I might get sucked back that area in one day.

Northland was nice a long time ago, top notch in fact, first large scale enclosed mall in the nation. The hotel and movie theater (copper roof) adjacent to Northland were very nice, and still standing.

Driverless cars all over Ann Arbor now, soon in Dearborn as well from what I've read.

Google made it to the area, not so far fetched that Amazon will too, but I'm not holding my breath.

Lots of places "throwing the hat in the ring" hoping ... I would imagine that execs that know they will move to the new site aren't going to be too hot on some BFE location. My prediction is that it will be in a reasonable comfortable and lively place as already suggested. It will not be in Pittsburgh, Detroit or Alabama ...

Tabs, the P-38 used Allisons. Packard/Merlins were primarily for P-51s; P-40Fs also had them.

Later the Packard/Merlins were used in the P-51. Originally, it had an Allison...

When you consider multiple cities in 54 states and territories it adds up quickly. I know of at least 3 proposals from here in AZ alone.

This is what makes me think it will be Nashville.....decent weather, freindly locals, desireable location for settling families, and already a home to many international companies.

For sure, 50,000 jobs coming to any area would be an absolute boon to construction, infrastructure improvements, retail sales, taxes, and image....even better than the olympics.
