I did go into the Rod And Gun Saloon in Stanley Idaho years back. The place was packed with the evening's entertainment being some yodeling country and western band. There was one table with an older guy and his wife and a few extra chairs.

Me and my brother asked if it was ok to join them, the guy said yeah, he was just waiting for an old buddy who he had attended veterinary school with.

To my surprise his buddy was Baxter Black, famous cowboy poet. Great and funny guy, boy can he tell stories! He even bought me a beer.

Very cool. That is one spectacular aircraft. See it for free at the Air Force museum in Dayton.

Incredible aircraft... beautiful.

They built 2 of them. #2 was hit by another plane flying in formation and was destroyed.

#1 flew as a testbed for several years.

It's mission disappeared between the time it was initially designed and it was finally built. No longer a viable bomber. (SAMs got better, ICBMs could deliver nukes more reliably.)

Wish I could upload a video. Is for an upscale leather coat company.

Older businessman sitting at a hotel bar, drinking alone.

Drop dead gorgeous babe walks in, leather coat draped over her arm. She sits at a small table by herself.

Dude type guy across the bar sees her, starts making eyes and smiles at her.

She realizes she is not going to be able to work on her laptop. She closes it, and is getting ready to leave when the dude strolls over and drops his room key on her table. Flashes a sick, sweet smile and he walks towards the lobby elevators.

Babe gets this wicked smile, and as she loads leather coat over her arm again, heads for the door with the dudes' key in her hand. Goes over to the bar and drops the key in front of the portly 'business guy', smiles at him with a swish of the eyebrows... then goes out the side door.

Business guy quickly pays his tab, gets his stuff and almost runs to the elevator, barely catching it with the dude in there already.

Business guy nods at the dude, and as the doors close, dude sees his room key in business guys hand....

It is possible that onewhippedpuppy is miss-remembering and it is a 250 TR on a 330 chassis?

I had that “HI experience” at Moana Surfrider Beach Bar — she had a biz card with a pair of lips on it and bar staff obviously knew her but seemed OK with her being there— mid twenties— hung around for an hour and said call later in the week then disappeared off to Rum Fire @ Sheraton for more canvassing .... I struck up a conversation for obvious reasons, what a cool dude. He was a fabricator for Shelby on the GT40 program, part of the team that built the car and supported their efforts at Le Mans and elsewhere. He did amateur rally racing in Europe in the 1960s, worked for Holoman-Moody, worked for Ford Racing, worked for Shelby, and did freelance work for a host of others. He knew all of the iconic racing drivers and had been to just about every famous track. He owns a Ferrari 330 rebodied as a 250 GTO cabriolet, a Bugeye Healy, a Ford Cortina, a Ford Falcon rally car that won its class in Monte Carlo, and a host of other cool stuff. He showed me pictures of the original 289 Cobra that he regretted selling. I spoke with him for at least an hour, just a friendly and unassuming gentleman who apparently splits time between Charlotte and England.
Which DoubleTree? The one in Southpark or by the airport? I think there is also one in uptown too.

Actually it may be a TR and not a GTO. Definitely based on a 330 though. I’m not a Ferrari guy and there was beer involved.

It was at the airport Double Tree, I had an early flight in the morning.

I was a bit confused by that, but it is a 250 TR body on a 330 GT.

I enjoy that car when I see it out on the streets driving in Charlotte, the noise and sound from the old V12 is amazing.

There are three that he built.

You managed to shake off the hops and barley from my memory, based on the pictures that you posted and that he showed me, it's definitely a TR.

It was back in the 1980s at a War Bonnet Tech event. We had Hans Metzger as our featured speaker that year. After the dinner some of the staff for the event and Hans went to the hotel bar. Every other guy on the event staff was married and they had one drink and went back to their room to be with their wife. I was single so Hans and I got to swapping stories with me mostly asking questions. We drank the bar dry of St Pauli girl beer. I learned one lesson for sure. Do not try to keep up with a German when drinking beer.

I had to stagger back to my hotel room and he was fine.

At the Charlotte Porsche Parade Norbert Singer was a guest. I ate dinner with he and his wife. My wife stayed behind for that Parade so it was just the three of us at a small table.

In the movies and many TV shows a main character goes into a small neighborhood bar and has a drink and chats with a bar tender or the bar owner. I have never in my life done that. To just go to a bar and buy drinks is not in my play book.

That's good to know... I just couldn't imagine a true car guy would hack up a 250 GTO... one of my top 5 favorite cars.

I feel all better now.

No bar involved, but my brother told me a story where he was at the airport in Palm Springs getting ready for another leg when Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn walked up.

Kurt pointed to the citation and said, is that yours?
Bro said not mine, I just fly it.
To make a long story longer, Kurt sat right seat to Burbank and back with my brother just for fun.

It was a long time ago and I've slept since then but that's how I remember it.

edit: addition info:

Quote:
Kurt Russell
In addition to being an Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated actor (and winemaker!), Kurt Russell is also an FAA-licensed private pilot holding single-engine, multi-engine, and instrument ratings certifications. He is also an Honorary Board Member of Wings of Hope, one of the oldest and largest volunteer humanitarian charities in the world.
Quote:
Russell has owned a Rockwell Commander, Cessna Crusader, Cessna 414, Cessna Conquest, and fractional ownership of a Piaggio Avanti 180 but its his Starduster biplane that is his favorite.
