Float wall (I like because the wall is made plumb) or wonder board tile and finish. Glass on both side with free swinging door up front. Faucet on left wall. If you want to get fancy, have rain shower coming down from ceiling. Cut open long wall for a niche to put shampoo and etc. Since you have that blonde in your house, and I am a big sexist, this is your chance to put in a longer niche for all the shampoo and other hair product women usually need.

Pretty much like Vash's pic with the exception of the tall base. I think it should be tile/stone or what ever material instead of plastic. Lots more elegant that way
I would definitely go this way if I was removing the tub, but need to keep it. Ladies need tubs.

So, imagine this for a shower, not a tub/shower.
That is really beautiful!

Here's a very rough photoshop of what I think would be the simplest route.

But....

Can I have the shower head on the wall separate from the faucet? How would the shower head diversion be controlled?

Is there room on the tub ledge to accommodate the glass? (I don't think so)

I want to keep the low wall for privacy to the toilet. I don't like the idea of glass all the way to the floor.

Jeff designed our shower head to be on the opposite end from the tub faucet and controls. The diverter is by the faucet.

Close up of the ledge. I think there may be room enough for the glass. It would be tight.

The metal frame anchoring the glass to the top of the tub in our tub/shower is 1/2" thick. I think the glass itself is 3/8" thick. If you had an 1.25" to 1.5" from the faucet hardware to the edge of the tub, you should be good. If less, then I'd defer to experts like Jeff.

Got it, Motion, about the tub.

I start with a tub that has a tile in flange to keep water flowing back into the tub, not self rimming one or top mount. Built a half wall, about 3'6" tall, on the toilet side for a little more privacy but I like as much open feel as possible so maybe the glass can start from the edge of the tub. With the Pony wall (half wall) at 3'6", there's enough height to install the shower control without leaning down breaking your back every time you go and turn on the water. Run the shower head on the opposite wall or out from the ceiling, same I did for Jim or many of my clients. At first, they question me thinking it looks funny. That's because they are not used to seeing it that way but after using it a few times, they always understand the reasoning behind it and love it. When you go and turn on the shower you don't ever have to run for cover because the shower head is on the other side. The fill spout will come out the center of the long wall. The edge of the tub is about 3-4" and the fill spout is usually 7-8". The fill spout is always out of the way. It will looks great. The shower door will have to hinge on the right side but it will swing both directions.

It looks like you have a 36" wide tub there? You aren't keeping that old tub, right? No way to get a frame less shower on there.

Thanks, Jeff! That is great info. I think you are right.... it won't be possible to keep the tub. I don't like that the drain and faucet are on the wrong sides, anyway.

I have been researching tubs, and it sounds like I need an "alcove" tub. As long as the footprint is similar, I think it will drop in. Tubs are standard sized, right?

Something like this:

If I get the left-side drain model, I can put all the plumbing in the tall wall, which is perfect.

^^^ I may even be able to get away with a half glass (or 70% glass) wall if I mount the shower head low enough, and contain the spray to the front half of the tub. I see those in Europe a lot. That would be a lot simpler, as it would require only 1 piece of glass and no hinge.

I suggest against the half or 70% glass. The splashing will ruin that pretty oak floor. Plus, at 70%, that's less then 20". That maybe good is you don't plan to gain any weight but I know you are a skinny guy.

I mount my shower head higher then normal or standard so people don't have to duck to wash themselves. All my shower heads end at 6'-2". Standard tub is 32x60. I like to see 36" in your place since you have a little extra space by the door. I you are going to do this, do it right. You have plenty of room there. Space planning and design is your friend. that can be a really comfortable shower with plenty of elbow room along with storage. Think outside of the box a little bit. You have enough room

As for the tub, I like Hydro Systems. They are made here in North Hollyweird. It can be order any configuration with drain in center left or right. In your case, I would suggest a flange on three sides, with a right hand drain (looking straight at the tub). Volume control on the right along with diverter, shower head on left, and center spout. 28-30" door with two hinges attached to the pony wall and another near the top to support both glass panels. Done.

Thanks, Jeff! That sounds like the proper plan. I believe my existing tub is 36", so I will go for the same for replacement.
