Oatmeal has been bloating me lately, going to try one egg with corn tortilla (non-GMO) and one slice of bacon or some smoked salmon for a while and see if the bloating goes away.

The second thing to know is that oats are quite high in phytic acid. This is a phytonutrient that is very hard to digest. And it explains the heavy, sinking feeling I would get in my stomach after eating oatmeal.

If you struggle with GI issues like bloating, reflux, IBS, Crohn’s, or other inflammatory conditions, oatmeal and grain-based breakfasts are not for you, either. Grains can be very irritating to your GI tract due to the lectins and phytic acid, which contribute to more inflammation. Gut irritants like grains and legumes may contribute to flares.

Beans, nuts, grains, all high in phytates. That's why they need to be soaked, rinsed, soaked, rinsed, etc... before use, but by the time you get them out of a bag, it's probably kind of too late for that. Besides being hard to digest, I think the phytates also block our ability to get all of the nutrients out of the stuff that we're eating.

I wonder if oat bran also has phytates.

Waffles from a spice cake mix with some whipped cream on top!

Pancakes and donuts I can take or leave. I do like a good custard filled with maple icing now and then.

Most Saturday mornings are an omelet with shredder cheddar and toast, oatmeal or Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Pop Tarts and oddly, my sugar does not spike like if I eat french fries or hash browns.
