"R" Groupe N.W. ?
Bear( GERR ) with me as I try to explain this and you can throttle it, bottle it, or what ever........
"R" group N.W. You pay a 100. bucks to join. we all elect a captain /teem leader (some name ) to be in charge of inventory. He can resign if he/she /has to anytime. ( we install a new name sake ) They are mostly in charge of who has what for how long. Every year we can add a few tools to the inventory..maybe by vote ? If we had ten or more pretty soon we would have everything from smart camber to wedgeloks to yes scales.,...my pt. is "You mean we all cant get along and do such a simple thing ??" We could i believe do this, as other locality's have............................. ![]() Express your selfs...............

That sounds like a great name for the group. I'm surprised no one is using it already.

Yes, but it's all about how one uses his tools.

For instance, when I rebuilt my eng. I bought all sorts of stuff I may never use again, cam tools, made "eyebrow jigs," eng holder, seal installers , to name a couple. now this stuff sits gathering dust. My money would have been better spent by (buying) joining such a "R" group.
For instance I have a car lift if anyone needs to pull a eng and do a what ever they are welcome to do it here . ( sure makes a clutch R&R EZ ) "Thats all I got to say about that" . Forest Gump

Everyone knows that the so-called 'r' group can't get along with anyone...especially big-headed, know-it-all, over-engineererered SC owners...and tool whores.

It's an engine case, not a block.

Great idea George - I just don't have any major repairs scheduled in the near future. No need to pull apart my engine caseS. I have some welding and rust issues to deal with in the '69 and will then paint, but I already have everything I need for that....

There are only two jobs on my car I have ever farmed out; rear wheel bearing replacement and a tranny rebuild. Both were done by John Walker. Other than that, I have done everything myself. I would be hard pressed to remember a part on my car that I have not held individually in my own hands. I have the tools and I'm not afraid to use them...
My son Chris's car is pretty much the same way. He had Walker rebuild the motor after a rod bearing failure at Pacific Raceways last fall. That was purely to have John's experienced eye evaluate it for collateral damage to ensure everything was taken care of after such a catastrophic failure. He was darn glad he had John do the work, as he caught a lot of stuff we would have missed. So, in essence, I do everything I can, up to and including building my own motor last year. Anything I'm uncomfortable with, that I feel needs a professional, goes to Walker. I have been very happy with that arrangement.

I do farm a lot of stuff out. I guage what I work on based on the time I have, confidence, how much will it cost if I screw up, etc. If I needed an expensive specialized tool that I'd only use very infrequently it's probably a good indicator I shouldn't be doing the job. I have two teenagers, full time job, two dogs, going to grad school, etc. I've done my brakes, interior work, shifter rebuild, a bunch of smaller projects.
I'm tearing into building up a race car for SOVREN and will do more of that work with the supervision of a more experienced friend. I'll still farm some stuff out like cage build, engine performance tuning, suspension fine tuning, etc. There's a reason for me that guys like John Walker are a great asset. I appreciate their knowledge, experience, focus and think the $'s spent are a great investment in getting the job done right and saving my time for other things like becoming a better driver which I need a well running car to do.

I guess what I am trying to figure out "is" there is a teem spirit here to buy in on a few tools that are seldom used . Transparently not........ I get E for effort

To be accurate, 300 'tools', but membership ebs and flows so the ranks are almost always open for more members. The limit of 300 was decided not to be exclusive, snobby, upper crust, or black Audi hating, but to keep the administration of the membership, coordination of activities manageable by a couple of people working at it part time. Those are volunteer positions and frankly I don't blame them since they oversee site administration, event planning, fee collection, T-shirt sales, the books, etc. If I started a club I would like to keep it manageable with my life and work as well.
I find it highly commendable that one of the Gruppe's most ardent critics was recently welcomed with open arms. Before I joined, I had the same wary eye and skeptical view until I met the members (Porsche enthusiasts) and was pleasantly surprised. For the past 3 years I have been one very happy tool (probably because the people are so great, and their drives are an absolute kick in the @$$). P.S. I drive a 290 hp black Audi
