Targa bar paint for original look
So from searching far and wide, the consensus I found was wurth satin (trim too).
If it’s like rustoleum 777 (another favorite satin for wheels). There is no texture to it. I’ve owned mine since ‘86 and it has/had texture (except where it wore off and I painted it). If I go to the trouble of removing my bar and painting I want close to the original texture. I’ve found a post where this allegedly occurred (no picture): Final coat from rattle can at 3 feet away ontop of a wet coat. Claimed he got the correct texture. I guess I could experiment on some aluminum with Wurth satin and report back. Just worried about running/runs. Car original black bar and stainless is not an option ![]() Professional painters/restorers must use the “textured” polyU like the bulletin claims. Where can one find this? |

if you are looking for a texture coat out of a spray can there are many on the market.
there are also options with them like you can buy them in black or if you want you can buy a texture coat and spray the black gloss your looking for over it. |

Gives me some ideas. I know the rustoleum texture is not quite right. I'll spend hours searching and then procrastinate. I think I'll try the spay a wet coat then a final one at distance to see what I get though. |

There are some helpful threads on the tech forum. Here is one helpful response from thread titled Targa Bar Repaint circa 2008.

I looked into this subject on the german forum before and found this link: The official Porsche shop manual states that: "Nach der Grundierung mit GLASURIT Thermo Grundfüller 285-16 wird mit HS Grundfüller 285-50, 285-60 oder 285-95 gefüllert. Or in english: Primer, Filler and then underbody coating to give it it's texture. So at least sometimes, texture was standard. Now i need an underbody coating that will look similar to "GLASURIT Unterbodenschutz schwarz 1109-1240/4" and that is available in the US in a rattle can. Otherwise it is going to be RustOleum. Well at the moment, I’m not doing the “add a coat from 3 ft on top of a wet coat trial”. I’m contracting a painter who will do the whole car.
