John, thank you for the extensive process pix! Instead of sleeping I just waltzed through the anatomy of an early car and how to restore it in 2 easy year! Wow, truly amazing journey. My sadistic side wants to tear down my car now and do a full 'Fishcop' but I hope to drive it for a bit. The Octisserie will be the tool of choice! I am glad you don't live any closer b/c then I would borrow the Octisserie and get myself into trouble
sub'd for sure

Thanks guys. It's nice to get the support to keep me going and I hope it's a useful reference for others following
![]() I do feel I'm really on the downhill slope now... A bit of shutz and some cathartic block sanding and I'll be ready to think about laying some colour!

Hi John
How long before you finish using the OCTO thingy as I wouldn't mind borrowing, buying, renting it from you so I can finish my 71 The project looks unreal and it is a credit to you. As an aside I have been trying to finish my 71 for 8 years and it has been slowly slowly. Michael |

Hey Michael
I reckon it'd be cheaper to build one than freight it to Sydney... Pretty easy to knock up. If you happen to be up here with a van/ute then that would be different A few people seem to have queued up to borrow it

Did you make the rear sway bar mounts?
My car didn't come with a rear sway bar, and I'm doing some major rust repair in the area where they mount. I was checking out the brackets, and can't justify the $180 for the beefy wevo ones. I was thinking a couple pieces of boxed in angle iron, with a couple long nuts would probably be just as strong, and could be made out of scrap metal

Hi John,

So the 69 chassis runs internal oil lines for the cooler (through the sills) and these are tricky to install if not done at the factory, so in anticipation I picked up a set of SC lines some years ago. I was just going to use "riv-nuts/nut-certs" to anchor the SC oil lines but I was advised that there is a fair load and vibration on those points when the lines are full of oil, and the sills are relatively thin steel. So I welded up brackets like the later cars use out of some spare chromoly steel
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've only go one of the mounting brackets so I had to "imagine" that three will hold the lines nice and parallel

So then I moved on to laying the schutz over pretty much the whole unibody. I haven't finished the trunk though yet.
The stuff goes on a lot quicker and easier than it comes off but there's a half day in masking everything off!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tomorrow I hope to do the front trunk area and may even get to lay some colour on the belly... I will be transferring the shell from the octisserie to a conventional dolly to paint an finish so I need to do the belly now whilst it's easy to get to. I figure I may also lay some colour on the underside of the lids and door edges.

Yes, I'm going with the original Ossi Blau 6803.
It became a bit of a saga as I hadn't physically seen the colour until recently (computer monitors can't be trusted). In the end I don't think it's hugely different from the Arrow Blue that's been on the car for the past 20 years and I think I may grow to like it more as it's a little darker - nearly Oxford Blue. The next big decision is likely to be the interior colour Looking to get away from all black. There was a factory red available. Porsche liked the Ossi Blau/Red combo enough to use it on their '69 brochure ![]()

I only just stumbled onto this thread. Wow, what a fantastic job you're doing!
Sorry there'll be a little less arrow blue out there, but it's going to look stunning judging by your work to date

Hi Al
I'm genuinely sad to see the Arrow go, but having just laid some of the Ossi on the backs of panels and underside, I'm pretty sure I'll be satisfied ![]() Pics soon...

Seventeen months since my journey began, and today saw the first of its new Ossi Blau clothes...
I did the underside and wheel arches today as well as the inner parts of the front guards. I ran out of time to do the lids and inner doors today, but should get them done tomorrow. These areas aren't critical for perfect paint as they aren't seen or already have the stippled underbody surface. The remainder of the critical areas will be done inside the garage in a makeshift booth. Ossi Blau is a fair bit darker than I imagined, closer to Albert or Sea Blau (but definitely different). I do like it and can't wait to get it done! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
