911 Restore
I have spent part of the last 2 days reading this thread. I admire your work. It excites and inspires me. I recently purchased but have yet to pick up a 1970 T. I hope to in the next 1-3 weeks. My wife enjoyed it as well. She loved to see the transformation but she said you should of had a photo taken with your son near completion. We saw the lad at a early age when the project started and to get a better idea of the length of time a photo of him now with the car is only appropriate
. She wasn't impressed with the double of the budget or triple the time so thanks mate! ![]() I hope to be as patient. |

In June this year I bought a 68S SWT and a 68 911L from a friend who had been sitting on them for a few years... I moved the S on to someone to restore (I don't have another big restoration in me, and the S needed a lot of attention) and am using the funds to set the 68L up as a historic race car for a racing series over here.
And check it out, a left hooker... that'll be something different for me! I will post progress

Hi John,
Just rereading parts of your journey for inspiration on a few tubs of my own needing similar attention. I'm sorry if you mentioned it earlier at some point and I missed it - what was your weapon of choice for drilling the 10's of thousands of spot welds? That is not something I'm particularly looking forward to... Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom
I started with one of those 10mm cutters that sit on an arbor, but the hole is just too big for spot-welds. In the end I bought a specific spot weld cutting bit from a proper spot-weld cutting tool and just used it in my 18v cordless drill. In hind sight and with the number of welds to cut, I really should have just bought the propper tool for about $250

That's the one Tom! Honestly, if you think you'll do a few jobs over the years (and it is a sickness
) then get one of those from the beginning...
