Fabricating a right side backdated heater outlet.

I have an extra right side heater block off plate and figuered I'd fabricate my own backdated outlet. It can't be all that difficult when you're starting with the OEM blockoff plate and just cutting the hole and welding on an elbow.

I'm doing it more out of boredom and a "can I actually do this" attitude. Haven't used my welder in almost a year. Jonesing to make something usefull.

Has any one done this? Does anyone have pictures of the back side. I remember seeing pictures a while back and it looked like there was a small scoop on the back side to help direct airflow, not real sure though.

Any advice, pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Pelican lists the part, here is a pic from pelican site:

Part # 911-106-322-01-PH

Does not show back, but it looks like it sits flat.

Thanks dad911, I thought I had seen another picture somewhere that showed some type of scoop on the back, or, more of an extention from the tube going thru the front. That pic does look like its sitting flat so I think I'm going to give it a shot.

Thanks

Sailchief,

The picture posted by dad911 is the earlier style (all metal) and does not extend further back. However the later ones shown in the picture below have the extended section you probably had seen before.

You could fabricate a deflector of sort connected to the elbow to get more air flow. HTH.

When I open it up I will look to see what kind of clearences we're talking about. Also what direction the airflow comes from, clockwise or counterclockwise. The pictures you have with the extensions make me think the air flow is coming from above (clockwise) because the opening is pointed upward.

I can extend the tube thru the facia plate and cut it off on a bias and It'll probably work the same way.

Thanks.
