NOS NPR 86P pistons/cylinders in box

So I found these in a garage in Stockton, California. I can clearly remember these back in the day as a pretty high quality set. My buddy in Modesto got some for his 63 356 back in 1982 I believe. Anyway, I bought them for $25.00 and was thinking about using them for an old 1970 type III VW 1600 DP. Well I broke that engine down yesterday and was just looking at things and realized the new NPS cylinders are not as tall as the old VW's. Well that's certainly not going to work. SO...... I'm toying with the idea of selling these and getting the cash to help with my VW rebuild OR possible a trade as my 63 Ghia and it's motor (A 1972 DP 1600) is getting old. Here are some pics..... I would love to hear your comments as I do know there were many that were knock offs. I believe these are the real deal and quite sot after.

Update

So I need to apologize here. I have already got some inquiries as to how much I want for these piston/cylinders and I clearly said I was toying with selling them so I understand the question of how much. Here's the deal. I have no clue what these things are worth. Maybe I should change my point and ask that question first. What is a fair price for these? I'm not looking to take advantage of anyone but obviously I would like to get what there worth.

Any supporting information about these would also help. So to be clear, yes I would be interested in selling them but I need more information to make a logical sale. Again, knowing and thinking these are the high quality NPR's is important and would certainly influence the price one way or the other. The little bits of info I could get were 16 years old from a guy Maestro and a another from a place called the stable in the SF area so that's real old stuff.

searching this very forum would have given you some ideas based on actual sales over the past couple of years.

You are correct. Sometimes I swear I just have a brain fart. Problem is I just don't surf these forums really that much anymore and I forget the obvious. Ok I have what I need.
Oh.... thank you ty901 for that nudge.

It would appear that $1000.00 is the range that they have sold for recently. I'm on the central coast of California. Near Greenfield.... back way into Carmel Valley. Shipping would be on you.

NPR 86's were a good way to get off the line in a street 356 in the 80's. It's a real good move to weight balance them out before install as they never seem to match.
Good memories. GLWTS !

AA Performance sells a much improved and better balanced 356/912 P&C set for a whole lot less.

2 things for anyone considering these;
make sure you're getting fresh stock. a couple of years ago there was an issue w/ premature failure of the wrist pins.
make sure you carefully measure the cylinders for length between the mating surfaces.

they're made in China, but it's not about the location. it's about the QA.

NOS NPR 86P pistons/cylinders in box

My limited research indicates they were made in Japan.
I've had them in my daily driver. '59 coupe, for about 7 yrs. without a problem.
Recently I have not seen any NOS NPRs sell for more than $800.00.

Weights

So I weighed the pistons by themselves. Have no clue if those are tolerable weight differences. Also the wrist pin clips were at the bottom of the box in there little plastic bag.

#1. 18.25 Oz OR 518 g
#2. 18.25 Oz OR 518 g
#3. 18.10 Oz OR 514 g
#4 18.05 Oz OR 513 g

Pistons and cylinders although I'm not sure why that would matter.

#1. 80.45 Oz OR 6274 g
#2. 81.50 Oz OR 6355 g
#3. 80.40 Oz OR 6272 g
#4. 80.25 Oz OR 6260 g

I also want folks to know that the pistons came out of the cylinders just as I would have expected BUT they were all dry. I suspect some of the old lube that was used when packaged new had stained some of the pistons VERY slightly. I hit them with some 3 in 1 oil and they cleaned right up. Figured that was also better than dry for more storage. Listen, I don't have a 356 anymore and to be honest I would love one but there just priced out my league these days. Sad really because I love them and have owned 3 years past. If somebody needs these for a rebuild let me know and I will consider all offers. I would rather they find a good home than just sit on them. Trades are also considered..... currently working on a 63 Ghia Vert.

To Callard: What makes the AA pistons/cylinders better than the old NPR 86p set? (Materials? Please specify. Dimensional tolerances? Please specify. Balance tolerances? Rings?)
