Nice to see that someone is taking it serious and doing it right the first time. Be careful not to spray too much of the undercoat and save as much of that original Gulf blue as you can.

Thanks for the advice! Hats off to my Dad and our friend Kevin for the work.
Next step is to start working on the engine and figure out where oil is leaking from.

Finished product of front pan repair. Credit to Dad and Kevin who stayed late after work making sure the colors matched the Gulf Blue. I think it turned out to be beautiful!

Update:

Fuel delivery system overhaul is pretty much complete. Rebuilt fuel distributor and warm up regulator were added last week. Car turns over and starts right away now. Idle is steady but isn’t ideal. Now that she runs consistently, we will drop the engine and start from the top. Also got some original Fuchs 6x15s from Pelican user @cfassett. Looks like the 7x15 deep six wheels on the car were replicas. Also splurged on some brakes because why not?

Getting closer and closer to driving!

Such a a sweet car. You going to keep the AC system and lines on that thing or return it back to stock?

Haven’t decided yet. Need to get it rolling first. Compressor still works!

Texas and AC go hand in hand

I’m in Texas and am deleting AC & radio but my car is only fair weather driven. Look into the Classic Retrofit electric AC setup.

Every time I look at this car it's just got to have long hood owners envious. The color, the narrow body. Amazing to me that midyears never got the street cred until 6 years ago. Amazing car and color. I go back to this thread just to look at it.

Again, very nice to see that you are serious in doing it right.

Please do all the fuel lines (including tunnel) as the '74 lines are very brittle and very crappy at this age. Hate to see it all go up in flames.

Love seeing these well preserved , mostly original, narrow body cars. My '75 left the factory just like yours (just Gemini Blue) but was butchered up long before I found it. Like yours, she was being left to a slow death (mine was about to be sold for scrap metal). I am resurrecting it slowly, but she will never look like yours again. Mine arrived on a trailer too, not running, windows blown out, stock 1975 suspension was a wreck, brakes were seized.......Now she runs and drives pretty well.....and I have REALLY loved getting her going and enjoying the whole process. Enjoy the ride.

My advice, do the minimum you need to get her driving first. They get to the rest. Being able to drive these cars cures any frustration you might have with "not having them done yet."

The community here as been fab to me when I had issues/questions. Searching these forums too has been an absolute goldmine of information!

A belated welcome to the P-Car club, welcome to the air-cooled club, welcome to Pelican, and welcome to the mid-year club (74-77).

Loving you're progress.

Day 1

Now, running, driving, and headed to DRT soon!

Amin......if you need to do the A/C, I have done both a rework of the original (on my '89, still very similar to your car) and the Classic Retrofit electric A/C (VERY trick and great....but not that original. Ping me if you have questions, when the time comes.

Thanks for the kind words. All the fuel lines including tunnel have been replaced.

Love seeing your pics. Hopefully this one will be street worthy soon. I promised my wife we'd go on a weekend road trip to the Hill Country or to West Texas once complete.

Do you know if the original style mirrors will just install into the same position as these, or would I have to drill new holes in the door?

I'm assuming this is the original style: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/911-731-013-10-OEM&SuperCat=Y&SVSVSI=13193.htm

correct?

Matt, do you know how many gulf blue 74's there actually were?

I cannot say for sure, but I would bet the original chrome "flags" in your link would fit. If they don't fit exactly, they should cover the holes you have. If the original holes are still present, golden. Just be glad you don't have powered flags, as the holes from those are massive.
