Kirk tool 2.0S

Bought this from our host last year, been sitting in the tool box since until today when I was going to adjust my valves. Tool does not fit on my rocker arm, can someone explain what’s going on here, do I have aftermarket parts or does the Kirk tool not fit all early engines.

I believe some tools had a manufacturing burr that would not make it fit the rocker arm.

Email Kirk. Email address is on the instruction sheet. He will make it right for you. A pelican posted about this on his blog. Same thing happened to him.

Hmm I have one and the gap looks wider. So does the picture on pelican.

Did Kirk make a tool for another car or different Porsche with different rocker ribs?

Go find your order / invoice. Maybe it's the wrong tool.

Here is the meat of Jerome's blog referenced in post 74 of that linked thread

"In the 18 emails that have gone back and forth between Mr. Kirk and myself, I reported a number of measurements from my car that I was asked to make, David did tests of the tool, and he diagnosed that there was an invisible burr from the manufacturing process on the screw driver bit."

His problem is the burr problem spoken of earlier. That is not OP's problem, OP's problem is that the kirk tool will not sit on the rib because the portion of the kirk tool that rests on the rib of the rocker is not wide enough to rest on it (that's why he lined it up in the pic)

HOWEVER, in the same thread, FRANKC in post 77 has the problem that the OP has, which is to say the rocker rib is not fitting in the kirk tool.

The thread ends with FrankC not following up, but it shows he's online right now. Someone could PM him.

Just to clarify, the tool will not even come close to fitting on the rocker arm, way too small. In all fairness, Pelican does not list a 68 911S as it wasn’t a U.S. model so I chose a regular 911. Really didn’t think the rocker arms could be different.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Over the years I've been selling this tool, I've had 2 other customers who experienced this problem - tool post V-cut will not engage on the rib of the rocker arm. Porsche, like other engine manufacturers, probably contracts with several vendors that supply rocker arm castings. I'm sure that this cast rib dimension is not held to a tight dimensional tolerance, thus probably varies depending on what company furnishes the rocker arm. When I designed the tool I was not aware of this variable. I used a rocker from a 3.2 L engine for my design template.

If any purchaser of this tool has this issue, please let me know and I will furnish another tool post no charge, with a wider V-cut. Also, if you should ever need a spare part or instruction sheet, just let me know. I want those that purchase this tool to be totally satisfied and I'll do my best to make this happen. My e-mail address is given on the instructions or you may contact me through Pelican.

I apologize to those that have encountered difficulty or problems with this tool. Please know that I will work with you to remedy the defect.

This. Those forged rockers were only used for a couple of years before being superseded by the cast rockers.

I have some forgies at home which I can take measurements from if the toolmaker needs them.
