Come up with a solid plan for the restoration so you are not taking two steps forward and one backward. Best wishes and keep us all posted. Cheers.
That’s really sound advice

If you haven't seen it look up Mike M on YouTube - he has a fantastic video series of restoring his Porsche still in progress.

Ive watched some of his videos and they have given me a lot of info. Honestly they are one of the things that gave me the confidence to keep it.

Also there will be a very nice driver of a 944 for sale soon

Got it running today. Sounds amazing for a car that hasn’t ran in 30 years. New plugs, fresh oil etc. burning off the marvel in the cylinders but other than that is awesome. I’d post a video but I don’t know how. I have one on my Instagram My handle is mikes914

You sir are just the right sorta guy for around here. You can get a car that has been parked up for 30 years running but can't post a video. I wish I could buy you pizza and beers.

Thanks NYNick. I may regret it later but for now I couldn’t be happier. I’m glad I got over the stress of taking it on. the engine running and sounding so good was a big help. I was afraid that engine repairs would completely make this an unreasonable project to take on. But not any more. I’m all in

An alternative view from a guy who has had many Porsche projects over the years where I wondered if I was over my head, and often I was - my 2 cents:

If it's running, especially consider selling it. Just cause it's running, doesn't mean you will be driving it anytime in the next few years. That body work will take years to complete when on a budget.

It then enters the high-risk phase in which, one day, you are disgusted at the lack of progress, and sell for less than what you could have sold it for assembled. I HAVE LIVED THIS SCENARIO.

The running engine just bumps the selling price up; that's about the only upside for the foreseeable future. Sell now to someone with the $ and resources to put it back together right and promptly, take the $$ and get another Porsche that is just as cool, but that you can drive now or at least very soon. Visit the car every now and then for closure.

Porsche are made to be driven, not seen on a rotisserie for years...and that is this one's fate...just my HO...

Words of wisdom by 70SWT.
Get it running on its own, with a new fuel pump, and take the quick $10k-$20k profit.

Mike, keep an eye on the crashed and unwanted auctions. You may be able to buy a whole car and swap over the bits you want.

It worked for me. I bought a beautiful (other that having been crashed ) SC as parts for my SC. It had been crashed on the way home from a fresh engine rebuild plus new interior, wheels, and numerous things. It was almost Christmas for my SC and me.

Yes, it will take tens of thousands to complete.
Yes, you will get disillusioned and frustrated.
Yes, you will curse and bleed.
Yes, you will think you may have made the wrong decision and second guess yourself.
Yes, people will think you're nuts.
Yes, it'll probably be worth less than what you have into it when you're done. Money isn't everything.

But...

You will have many satisfying days (and nights!)
You will enjoy working with your hands and seeing your accomplishments.
You will show off your handiwork.
You will make it your own.
You will watch it come together.
You will push it from no progress to nice progress on your own.
You will finish it someday.
You will drive it with pride, knowing what you did and how you did it.

I have had many people look askance at some of my ideas over the years. Some people lack vision. Some lack determination. Some lack both. It's not their life (or car), it's yours.

I have always made my ideas work, some better than others. They're mine for better or worse, as this will be yours.

Good for you. Eyes wide open on this car and plan, plan, plan.

Mike, not to beat a dead horse, but as several others have said, you own the car now. Just plink away at it. It'll get there.

Sounds like you have it running. That's YUUUGE! Nice work.

When I was tracking my '72 T w3.2, there were 2 guys in a '67 911. Not sure if it was an S, but that doens't matter. They were Embry-Riddle students down from Prescott. Cool guys.

It ran pretty well, but was cosmetically very rough. It was safe to track, but otherwise very basic. Between sessions, they were all over the car tweaking this, fixing that, all while having a blast at the track.
There were many other cooler cars there, but folks were just gravitating to the old '67.

Fun times for everyone.

I would caution against "final product" in mind too much. Just make it move under it's own power safely. To just drive the darn thing will give perspective to the entire project.

Press on, young sir!

Susan (it cant see well in its old age)

Interior is not good. Wrong front seats and velour everywhere

I poked around the tube and it seems to be solid

No I don’t own a cellette table. I wish I did

I get it. It is great advice. However nobody ever said I was the smartest guy on the block so why try and change either one of those things now haha
