are they rims or wheels?

Really I kinda feel rims are snap on sheet metal trim rims, not wheels.

I am not trying to be argumentative, I am just curious because to me they are not synonyms, they are different things.

Am I alone on this?

Great point.
Thanks for pointing that out.

To me, the snap on trim pieces are beauty rings or trim rings, not rims. Old wood spoke wheels on cars from the 1920's and earlier often had tires mounted on steel rims that bolted on to to the edge of the wheels. And, the decorative caps in the middle were hub caps. That said, I recently looked at a website from a European parts dealer and it referred to aluminum wheels as rims! Oh well!

Wheel can refer to the wheel itself, or the wheel and the tire combo. Rim can refer to the rim of the actual wheel or the entire wheel without the tire. Trim rings are never rims.

I think having the center blacked out, and the outer rim portion polished bright would look hot on this car. Could be satin black or shiny black for more bling, but a polished outer rim will make the wheel pop, and go well with this car. Polished rims with shiny black centers also adds more bling, but is still elegant. On some cars a polished center cap can look good against the black, but on this car a black center cap is best. For more understated bling, full color crests on the center caps does it for some. That really works on a super clean car with deep glossy paint.

Whatever you do, if you do it well, it will look good.

On this particular car, I prefer the black. I agree with those that say the front shows more detail but the overall appearance taken as a whole looks better with black wheels to me. A complimentary contrast.

In between. The fronts without the bling finish, just a satin one.

Looks like we have beat that dead horse...... but I agree with you. If you walk SEMA
you will hear wheels referred to as rims.. I think in the hot rod world those words are interchangeable. I use both without thinking. But to me when I say "I like wheels" I mean I like your rims......

I ended up working on both front wheels today. I also freshened up the center caps. Back in black it is!
Thanks for all of your input.
Will tackle the rears tomorrow.

Back - I don't like the Hot Wheels look of the front rims.

Looks great.

And if you don't clean the front wheels, they'll have the low sheen look of the back wheels in a couple of weeks.

I roughed up the original paint with 800 grit. I also sanded the edges with 800-1200 wet dry to get rid of some scratches. Primed and 2 coats of the sem paint. I also freshened up the caps. More work to be done o the aluminum later.
