1988 911 Hood Issue

Hi All
A lady driver here - so please be understanding in your replies as I am no technical expert, especially when it comes to cars!
I have a 1988 Porsche 911 Carerra. The button on the dash to take down the electric hood has suddenly stopped working. I managed to find the fuse in the board and change it over with another fuse, but alas nothing! Given the Covid-19 pandemic, my local Porsche service garage is closed.....
Any ideas on what might be the issue, how I resolve it, and more importantly assume I have no idea where things are - it took me 2 hours to work out the fuse board.
Thanks in advance

Hi. When you say "hood", do you mean roof, or convertible top? So you have a 1988 911 Cabriolet? Assuming yes, it might be the switch on the dash or the motor(s) that control the automatic top. Auto repair is typically open during this crisis and although fixing the convertible top on your vintage 911 probably isn't considered critical, find another shop or wait for yours to open, but either way, take it to a pro. Good luck!

Is your emergency brake on? Is the key in the run position?

Ok thanks. Yes brake is on. Just seems the switch is dead so it must be electrical.

The top is controlled by a brain that (in my case because my car is RHD) sits behind the passenger seat kick board. At the age of our cars it has been known to cause issues. Mine was recently repaired, I believe some solder points had to be reflowed.

There are also a few micro switches left and right of the rear seats and on top of the windscreen that influence the operation. Given the variety of input parameters and connections across the frunk and behind the firewall it is quite difficult to troubleshoot.

Best of luck.

My understanding is that a lot of people give up trying to fix these, and convert it to a manual open and close top. I solved the problem by buying a coupe
