Hi all, I am new & the proud new pappy of a black Weissach. The car is great mechanically with all upgrades except a pop off valve. It has 105k and runs sweet. This is a great forum, I will no longer pester John Walker with unneccasary phone calls. I do appreciate his patience & professionalism. My problems lie in my interior & specifically my dash. I recently spoke with a guy at a company called Bascom in CA that does alot of Porsche interiors. He said they rarely do leather restores on dashboards anymore because of durability. He told me that if I sent him my new black viny OEM dash along with a sample he could dye it to match perfect. I plan to restore the car but don't have the $2000 it would take to do it proper right now. Has anyone dealt with this company? I've only found one thread on dyeing vinyl & it wasn't good. I can't stand looking at the bubbles in my dash, that's why I ordered the OEM dash. My interior color is tan, all Porsche has available is "Cork", is this the same color? The black or painted dash will be temp., but I don't want it to look cheesy. This car is a passion not an investment. It may not be as fast as my wifes car ( 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE), but it's a hell of a lot more fun to drive.

I'm in a similar boat, my dash has 4 small cracks in it that have been bothering me for about a year now. I've been trying to source a NOS dash that someone may have lying around, but have had no luck. You think finding tan interior parts is tough, try blue......took me 2 months to find an ashtray pad te place my broken one. Anyway, welcome to the board, sorry I could not help w/ your problem. By the way, if you have pictures of your car, please post them.

I own a weissach and my dash is shot too, the most cost effective move is to get your hands on a black leather dash and dye it,if you go to worlduph.com, the color # you are looking for is 204. the factory called it doric grey for the weissach, and beige gray for all the others its the same color, my 83 911sc cab is beige grey and its the exact same color as my weissach, good luck

I owned a Weissach back in the early 80's. The interiors did not hold up particularly well and I did end up dying my seats after judicious taping of the red pinstripes. I recall it was labor intensive job.
Anyhow, the folks that I got my dye from are still around and do other things like gas tank paint (for the exterior) which I can speak for as well. Generally you send them a sample of your leather (snip a piece off the bottom of the seat and send it in. You will get a pretty exact match and the material can be sprayed on or done with a paint brush (a good one, preferably). Here is the link: http://www.leatherique.com/products.htm |

I paid 13.5k so I doubt it is the one ad. for 30k.I will eventually restore the original leather, but want to get by with the vinyl OEM I ordered. My main question is, is it worth dyeing it to match the old one. I have some pictures once I figure out how tro post them.

My sister has a Weissach and we went through the same issues with the original leather dash. They shrink from exposure to the sun and then its all over. We bought a decent used one in a tan color and went to an auto paint place and bought some leather dye in the correct color. I applied it with an air brush and it came out near perfect. Shot the knee bolster and door top trim at the same time. It has been over six years and it has faded slightly, but still looks good.
