Shipping 911 from NJ to FL. - Advice and Pricing

Moving form NJ to Florida and trying to decide between renting a Car Carrier vs Shipping with a company. I would appreciate any feedback, including carrier company recommendations and potential costs. I need to ship no later than July 29th.

A U Haul trailer looks to be around $650 and I have to drive my truck down anyway.

Thanks,
Scott

If you ship use a closed carrier probably $1500 ish. If you trailer yourself and don’t drive straight through ( staying at a hotel) make sure to secure trailer and or car so it’s there in the morning. Bad things can happen at motels. If you can afford it ship it cuts down on anxiety of towing and or possible theft which is very real these days.

If you have a companion to drive with and it was me I would trailer it straight through in shifts.

My initial plan was for my wife and I to take shifts driving, so we have no plans to leave the car unattended. I thought if it wouldn't cost substantially more to have it shipped, that might be a better route.

I used Intercity, twice within the last 18 months and they were fantastic. $1500 from Portland, Oregon to NYC so NJ to Florida should be less. $1200 maybe?

These companies are extremely busy, so call right away if you're planning on shipping. BTW, pick up and delivery are always 'estimates'; they want leeway in both directions for pick up and drop off.

Whatever you do, if you tow the car yourself do not leave it unattended. There seems to be a pretty good amount of race car trailers and car trailers broken into with the cars gone the next morning on that I-95 route.

I'd ship it with Intercity, especially if it's your baby.

Can you buy a car trailer for $2000?
You can load it up full of crap too then sell when you get to Florida. Used car trailers sell fast.
If I was driving anyway I’d go this route.

I shipped my Cayman and 911 using intercity. I was completely painless and worth it. I left a day after on a 3 day trip to my new home and my cars showed up a day later. It is a great service.

I've been thinking about doing road trips when I get my 76 on the road. If I drive to Vermont I won't be staying at hotels. I may bring a tent and stay at a KOA. They have showers and the car is right there next to your tent.

Well, like everything else, it appears that the inexpensive car trailers are gone now, even crappy ones are going for motr than $2k, plus, it may need tires and other work.

Where in Florida are you relocating to.

Any reason you just wouldnt get in and drive it a week or two before and then grab a cheap flight back? Even if you have to rent a storage unit till your down there, be a lot less $, a really nice drive and a great story to tell.

NJ to northern Florida is a day drive. I drive solo from Sarasota (SWFL and 350 miles in) to NH lakes region every year and always get to Va. and that’s ~850 miles on day 1. I’d get the uhaul

If you are already driving your truck, I would rent the car carrier. I could do it in one day but I’d probably do it in two and take it easy on myself. When I drive south from Delaware, I leave at 3-4am, get past DC really early and easily and the rest of the drive is cake.

I’ve used Joe three times in the last few years. He’s a private operator with a closed two car trailer. He used to haul a lot of cars for Chuck Stoddard. He does the run down to Florida with some regularity from my conversations with him previously. He was no more expensive than the big names, communicated well, and was on time. I would use him again without hesitation.

I reached out to Joe and waiting on a response. Looks like we will need to get the cars shipped out no later than July 29th, so I may have to look into a number of options.

There used to be a train where you could load your car in The NY area and pick it up in Miami.

Amtrak Auto Train runs from the D.C. area to the Orlando area. Lots of high-end cars travel on that train, but you still have to drive to the train.

Just as an FYI for planning purposes, I've driven from northwestern NJ to the Tampa area quite a few times, and the maximum safe (for me) first day drive south got me down to the Savannah area. On the way north, one day gets me to just north of Richmond. My preferred drive is to not do a "maximum" distance day but instead stop in the Raleigh-Durham area and enjoy some of the great restaurants, attractions, and accommodations there. All of this assumes the driving is mainly via rt. 95.

Have you tried uShip? I shipped my 911 from Detroit to Miami last year in an enclosed trailer and it was around $1K. And, it was a very smooth experience.
