OK guys, I will prep and clear coat the mini duck and see what happens. Easy enough to paint later if required.
Cheers,
Johan

So, I got the usual bag of extra goodies back from the painter but have no idea what these are for. I’m wondering if they belong to another car being painted.

Clues anyone?

Just a quick note - I'm not using pre-preg as it has too many drawbacks for parts like these. I'm using resin infusion which may not have even existed when you last worked in composites! I remember being intrigued by carbon fiber many years ago but the purchase of an autoclave was a barrier to entry, as they say!

The processes have really improved, as have the materials, in the past few decades.
The former, yes, it really drives me. The latter, possibly? How about definitely. I have at least 200 hours into designing and making straightening/curving jigs, and making rivets, rods and acorn nuts to restore SWB grilles and I still have some tweaking to do. So definitely to my own detriment. But it's a passion, that I can't deny.

I have not heard of resin infusion though I might know it by another name if it existed 35 years ago. I worked for a pultrusion start-up, so any constant cross-section composite. Did a lot of military work and did some graphite arrows for Browning and hockey stick shafts for Bauer which killed the company. After perfecting the process, instead of making them here the whole company was sold to Bauer and moved to Canada. As the business manager it was a sad day I had "fire" everyone including me. The shop guys did not take the news well.

I don't recall seeing anything like these on a 911 Johan and have dismantled 13 parts cars over the years.

They look like hinge spacers to adjust/raise the decklid or hood up?

You are correct, alwazlookn4a911. These spacers are homemade and used to lift the rear corners of the frunk.

Help I.D. This Part

I have had this screw assembly at the back of my work bench staring at me for the past year. My memory laps continues so I need help identifying where it belongs.
TIA

Hi Johan,

Have you played around some more with the fitment of e-AC together with e-PS?

I've got to admit, I sure don't mind my ePS for easy parking in the city and I only have 7s up front, on a widebody with 9s it would make a huge difference....

The short answer is no. Spring is a busy time for us around here with all the yard work so not much time has been devoted to Alberto. Dealing with a hernia set me back a bit but I sure regained energy once it was fixed. And exercising the RST and the C2S has also been very time consuming.
Johan

P.S. I do note that Jonny H. Is experimenting with a heat pump mod to the system that sure looks attractive. Hope it’s offered soon as I would really like to instal one and get rid of all the engine air in the cabin.

A couple of updates……
My wife, who is an accomplished seamstress and quilter, reluctantly offered to contribute to Alberto’s interior. Stay tuned for the finishing touch.

I finally got the early door mechanism to work on the Rennline door handles. It needed a bit of bending here and there to accommodate the shorter throw of the lock button vs that of later models with the squeeze trigger. I also added a second “ear” to the lock mechanism so now my (after market) power door locks unlocks both doors from both the drivers and passenger sides.

I’m disappointed with the ill-fitting Rennline rubber gaskets that came with the door handles. Maybe OEM rubber will be better. See pic above.
I’m now experimenting with a wireless remote door lock system.
More later.
Cheers,
Johan

Apparently Pfaff isn't just a dealership conglomerate!

I have yet to meet a rubber gasket that wasn't "ILL-FITTING". Aftermarket, OEM, OE, factory, or otherwise. It's just maddening beyond belief... especially at the stage of the project you're at - all you want to do it get it assembled!

Keep up the great work!

Jonny,
I persevered today and got the gasket to fit properly after I immersed it in hot water and manhandled it into place. So all good now.

Johan, you may want to try dipping the prongs in liquid electrical tape. A thick coating works well.

Thank you for your interest. It’s been a busy summer here enjoying family and cars so not too much work on Alberto. Undertaking fall yard work presently so I expect to post an update next week.

Well, it’s never a good time to reveal bad news,….but here it goes. I fell ill at Christmas and was subsequently diagnosed with incurable stomach cancer. One never knows what’s around the corner and I am determined to make the best of the situation while I still have my marbles and my body can function.

Lucky for me that I have a close and supportive family and especially my dear wife and soulmate of 57 years.

The whole family is into cars, especially Porsches. I have given my daughter the blue ‘06 Carrera S 3.8, and the orange RST to my son. The Sweet Transplant, which is the subject of this thread, is slated for my daughter-in-law. My son, grandson and I will hopefully finish it over the next few months or so.

A big thank you to all of you who have followed my journeys over these many years and given me support and advise with this build and my beloved RST. Hopefully, I will still be around to see the Sweet Transplant drive out of our driveway under its own power.

Cheers,
Johan
