New Fuchs. Ruined.

NewISH, anyways.

I had bought this from FuchsfelgeUSA a couple years ago, had it painted. In 2021, I had it finally put on the car when I got new tires.
This just popped up. Saw it when I decided to register the car for Parade Concours and decided "I'd better start now"

Recently I had the brake fluid flushed when the AC was being repaired. Was told they remove wheel during a flush, so... probably not that.
Last week I had some rocker panel damage repaired. Body shop says no harsh chemical strippers or anything like that to remove waxes..so... probably not.

I haven't washed the car for a while. I use NO wheel cleaners, only Meguiars gold class soap.
This is recent.

I'm hurt. In my soul.

Alloy wheel cleaner can do this to the anodised finish on Fuchs. I believe it fades so just make sure the wheel is cleaned with warm soapy water to ensure any residue is removed

Pretty much a permanent stain of the anodizing but if you rub it with petroleum jelly you won’t be able to see it but it is constant maintenance to keep it clean.

Soap and water is the only thing I use. Body shop owner tells me that they didn't do any cleaning, and I have no reason not to believe them. We have a pretty good relationship.

You can always have the wheel re-anodized.

Fuchs Wheel Restoration.

They did a nice job restoring my wheels.

sorry to see it damaged like that

since you just had the brake fluid flushed, I wonder if the stain is from brake fluid inside/around the bleed screw that dripped/splashed onto the wheel after it was reinstalled.

That looks like wheel cleaner damage. Fairly common with anodized wheels if the cleaner is left on too long or is allowed to dry on the wheel before rinsing.

There is a macguires cleaner that is hard to get but is designed for anodized wheels.

You really should never need any special wheel cleaner. Just a mild soap. Then an occasional use of vaseline (on the anodized rims) will keep them nice.

Anodized finish protects against many elements but it’s nemesis are acid and alkalines.

I recall taking my 90 Honda Accord thru the automatic car wash, after repeated washed over the years, the tire brushes intended to scrub the tires had wore away the anodized finish in the wheels. A visible band was left on each wheel about 3-4” above the tire bead all the way around and on all 4 wheels. Never noticed at the time, car wash always applied Armorall or similar after each wash. It wasn’t until I stopped going there did I realize the risks of automatic washing.

Using Armorall always made this “defect” shine to match and blend with the rest of the original wheel sheen. Hides the dull damaged sections well - until it wears away.

It may be worth using some Flitz metal polish to see what happens (since you are facing refinishing anyway).
It’s remarkable metal polish. I use it to remove tarnish from a factory nickel P7M10….makes it look new and hasn’t damaged the factory finish.

Never anything but the Meguiars Gold Class car soap I was the car with. Never wheel cleaners. Ever.
That's the puzzler on this. The only way this could have happened were during the brake fluid flush, or during the rocker panel repair. Both of whom take steps to prevent this.
I know it wasn't there when I had the oil return tubes done at Walker's place a few weeks back. It would have been impossible not to notice with the wheels at eye level.

I wound up ordering a new wheel. I'll have this one refinished so I have a spare. Lead time is too far out to refinish before Parade, and I've got things to finish before then.
Funny thing though, a factory wheel was cheaper than the FuchsfelgeUSA wheel that this was...geeze those have gone up in price since I bought this one.

I'll have them all ceramic coated...
