Read this today. Most people suck at running a business (even if they're great mechanics, restorers, etc.) and then when they get out over their skis bad business skills turns into a Ponzi scheme. |

Stories like that are what is terrifying to me about getting a dealer to consign something of mine. Many folks could absorb the loss if something like this happened. For me it would be devastating financially.

FWIW, I was still getting weekly emails from them as recent as last Friday.
And their website/current inventory is still live - but who knows if they have the right to even sell anything in their inventory.... FWIW 2, Brian and Co. did a great job restoring my '72 back around 2010. And finally FWIW 3, a P-car peep I have a lot of respect for, and who has plenty of knowledge about - and interactions with - CPR told me he had severed ties with them. And that was at least 3 years ago. Recent Email below: ![]()

Espo Resto was posting flowery details about their "current builds" to their instagram while sheriffs had them locked out of the building. Scammers gunna scam.

If they did this to me, I would report the car as stolen

This has been going on with CPR since at least 2019. Steal a car it's a criminal matter, run a business and essentially steal someone's car its a civil matter. Makes it easy to repeat again and again and again. I have no sympathy for them. The honest thing to do would have been to declare Bankruptcy the moment they considered doing fradulent things to stay "in business". No one would excuse the criminal on the street when they steal a fellow enthusiast's car, but it's amazing how many people will defend a place like this who has stolen from multiple people. (not referring to any posters here) Probably several dozen.
Reminds me of a high end restoration shop called The Healey Works. Great reputation restoring various Marques then pissed it all away by defrauding a few customers. It's ultimately about ethics. I understand wanting to keep something open, not wanting to give up. I've been there. I ruined myself for many years with a failed business venture in my 20's because I wouldn't cut my losses. But cheating people crosses the line and when you come to that line your sense of right and wrong should kick in. Unfortunately it doesn't always work that way.

In February 2023, Doherty admitted that she agreed to sell a 1972 Porsche 911S for its owner, and found a buyer the very next day who wired her $280,000 within a week. Although this buyer received the vehicle, Doherty did not transfer legal title and admitted that she had not used the wired funds to pay the seller. Instead, in October 2023, Doherty sold the vehicle again to another buyer, who wired her $275,000, part of which she used to pay the seller, who then transferred title to the October 2023 buyer, unaware of the February 2023 sale. Also in 2023, Doherty admitted that she sold a 1983 Porsche 930T Slantnose on consignment for $130,000, without telling (or paying) the owner. To complete the sale, Doherty forged the seller’s signature on the transfer of title document. More than a year later, this buyer contacted the vehicle’s owner, who then learned that his car had been sold and delivered to the buyer despite still being listed as available for sale on the CPR Classic website." That sounds exactly like what happened at CNC Motors in Upland, CA. Guess I got away easy - they restored my '72 back maybe 18 years ago...
