Porsche 911 distributor overhaul

Hi there! It took me quite some time to bite the bullet to spend the money to overhaul my ignition distributor on my Porsche 911sc. But after a while reading and understanding I realized there is only one way to go. The distributors need to be overhauled all 85 k miles and have to be recurved and checked for the right timing advance. The wear out not only happens by the bushings from the shaft but also by a play of the teeth of the shaft. The loss of power can be in normal cases until 30 percent.
I was going back and force with my my decision and decided to go for Barry Hershon . barry@distributorlab.com 313 728 9452.
He convinced me with his expertise and knowledge. He had his own shop for Porsches and specialized in distributors for the last 30 years. He is the only one in the USA who has the right testing and recurving machines original from Bosch. His work is outstanding, clean and accurate. When I put my new distributor from him in, I was amazed from the regain of the throttle response, and the car accelerated much more better! Thank you Barry! I invested my money well! Instead of going to other bolt on stuff. No wonder Porsche did win in Le Mans so often with Bosch distributors. Reliable and accurate.

My experience was much different.
Several years ago, at his request, I sent him a 930 ignition distributor to quote for rebuild, along with a brand new vacuum pot. I checked in a few days later and was told he had completely tore it down and wanted about double the going rate to put it back together. Long story short I never got my distributor or my brand new vac pot back. Very antagonistic and hostile, needless to say I found another ignition shop.

As I heard Barry had an unfortunate meeting in hospital for several weeks. Now he is back and up and about. It seems that he lives alone and has no family. So in any case he is back and I am sure that these men will sort out their business . Barry gave me the impression of a man of high integrity.

He certainly is a rip off. I’m out about 600.00 plus. This is for a 912 Porsche. I don’t expect to get mine back & will not send him any $ no matter what his offer is. He can keep the distributor. If he were a real man, he would return what I sent him ( distributor ) in a basket if that is the state it is in though I sent him a whole original 22 Bosch. S h

Send me a pm as a reminder. I might have another core I’d sell for not much, especially under the circumstance.

I recommend Glenn Yee at GT Series one. He does them for some of the better known retailers.
