85 tire Jack problem
Hi, a while back I was using my factory tire jack on my 85 911 but car moved and Jack got tweaked and now will not crank. Is there a suitable substitute I can buy and carry in my car that would work? Thanks? Nick.

Always chock the opposite wheel when jacking.
Stay safe. |

I carry a 944 alum scissor jack and a 1 ft sq piece of plywood for a base in the '88. Use it on the 4 jacking points. Got it from dC auto. He had a bunch. If you go this route be sure the crank handle is included. Emerg brake on, in gear, and chock if available.

I fixed the Jack. Heavy lube and kept working it. Back in car. I’m glad because they are impossible to find.

I have a farm jack that I use for utility rather than vehicle lifting, different mechanism but the manual states to keep it well lubricated. That said, I’ve yet to employ my 911 jack, but I expect it never had been cleaned, lube or used in 45 years.
I like the benefits of a scissor jack but they have equal limitations that can twist when the car inadvertently moves on uneven pavement, but sometimes it can be positioned to accommodate. Base pad and chocks - yes. Can’t rely sole on trans and handbrake. I keep these (treated lumber is stronger) tucked in front, lodged into the spare tire….
