While I agree in concept, it's just the axle stub underneath there without anything really exposed until I pull the hub. And once free, the hub will have the old bearings and races driven out, fully cleaned, new bearings installed, etc. so I don't think contamination is an issue.

I really detest pulling those off with a slide hammer. It's so uncivilized.

I present a more elegant solution for a more civilized age...

Ridiculously laughably easy / gentle. A couple turns of the wrench and she slid out nice and easy. No drama. No busted-A$$ cap. No broken slide hammer chain / fitting. A Porsche nerd buddy and I put it together. He's a 964 guy, but don't hold that against him.

All's well that ends well!

Cap is off, parts through initial cleaning and (almost) ready for new races, bearings, seals, and rotors!

I appreciate all the comments, but the prize goes to @proporsche... I had never done front 930 bearings before, I assumed that with the nut welded on the cap, that was the best and proper way to remove them. But he was absolutely correct. Despite the nut and being fairly recessed into the hub, the dust cap DOES have a lip and I was able to get a small sacrificial screwdriver in the gap into the lip and start working the cap off. Thanks! (though I feel kind of stupid that the actual solution was so easy compared to welding or drilling or rivnuting)
