930S Steering Wheel Spacer
I am getting ready to order a 930S wheel from Pelican for my 78SC and was wonderin if you guys are also buying the spacer to put the wheel slightly closer to the driver? Is it necessary or is it just more comfortable?

Dean, I did not need the spacer when I installed the 930S wheel in my 80SC. The wheel is one of my favorite upgrades! Craig

Dean, I would recommend the spacer. Everyone recommended it to me. When I ordered my wheel from PP, they forgot to send the spacer! Of course I couldn't wait to install the wheel, took all of 30 minutes(some of that spent ranting about the missing spacer). The wheel was a bit close to the dash, but livable, but the inability to see the speedo above 60 was a bit un-nerving. I like to know just how much I breaking the law
The spacer will make this an all around perfect upgrade. This wheel is awesome.

I got the spacer and wish it was bigger. It's smaller than the factory spacer, and that was almost enough.

There's been some earlier posts with pictures of the wheel-to-dash clearance with and without spacer.
The spacer also makes the wheel eccentric, which some like and others don't. I like it as there's more legroom at 6 o'clock and more leverage (e.g. for parking) at 12 o'clock.

I didn't need the spacer. As for the speedometer being blocked by the steering wheel, I just rotated the gauge 90 degrees to the left.

Got spacer, installed spacer, hated spacer, removed spacer, love 930s wheel. The spacer cocked the wheel up at a weird angle. Also, it made the wheel rotate in ovals rather than circles. There's plenty of oom between dash and wheel without the spacer in my car so no needy.

Just goes to show how 911 interiors vary. If I had not used the spacer on my install there would have been less than 1/2" clearance between the dash pad and steering wheel. Wasnt an option for me

Well there is definetly some differences of opinion out there and thanks for the inpu. I dont really like the idea of the wheel moving oval. I will most likely not get the spacer and try it. thanks for all of the replies. I can see this is a great upgrade.

I used the spacer on my 74; love it. Without the spacer the wheel would definately be too close to the dash for my liking.
To space or not to space; now this is the question............ Space a 78. |

FWIW, I drive my car every day. I know from the shape of the spacer that the steering wheel moves in an oval arc, but I certainly don't notice it. Worse case scenario.....another call to Pelican! Enjoy the wheel

I prefer the off-center movement of the wheel with the spacer. At least in high-intensity driving, it provides feedback on where the wheel is in its rotation without needing to look down.
Being able to see the gauges and having more room for your legs when you get into the seat are bonuses, as well.

Jack, do you shuffle steer? If so, I can see your point in terms of the off-center wheel helping denote the position of the wheel/tires. If a driver is not a shuffle-steerer, his/her hand position should tell them where the front wheels are pointing.
