momo wheel install...huh?
I usually can figure out things by rtfm. Unfortunately Momo is...let's say...manual challenged. It is somewhat obvious, but there are a too many parts as near as I can figure (sorry for the lousy photos...I'll try to take some better one tomorrow):
![]() OK...wheel, horn button with two attachment points, one wire, separate ring with 6 holes (?), 6 screws. Then comes the hub adapter (I ordered the extended version): ![]() ![]() So there is the hub adapter, 2 wires, thin ring with 6 holes and a tab bent (switch return?), 6 screws with allen key, 6 bigger bolts (don't fit in anything I can see), 3 with angle heads, three with cylindrical heads, then another 3 small screws. Not that the steering is important or anything (just like the brakes), but I'd like to do this right. I'm assuming the bigger bolts are for some other car? I'm also hoping when I pull the old wheel off more will be revealed. Last edited by nostatic; 09-10-2002 at 07:18 PM.. |

Nice looking wheel. First big hint: When you do this, unplug the horn relay.
In general, you install the hub adaptor to the car, then the wheel to the adaptor. The six allen head bolts should attach the wheel to the adaptor. (I was able to install the adaptor to the wheel, then the whole assy to the steering column in my car) The ring with the tab is probably a horn contact ring. Looks like a fun puzzle! Maybe you could turn it into a drinking game?

This may or may not help as I have an older car, but the way mine works is the the ring attaches to two mounting points on the clamshells (steering column covers). The hub fits to the wheel with the allen heads, with the assembly sliding onto the column spline. A wire coming off the signal switch bundle attaches to the tab on the ring. An independent wire is used to connect the horn button to its "contact the ring thing with the spring".... ring+hub+wheel
I suspect once you pull your existing system apart it will be fairly (lets hope) obvious.

Take your time with the allen bolts when you finally attatch the wheel to the HUB - especially if you have to go on and off a couple of times to get the wheel aligned correctly. If you are not carefull, you end up with a butchered look on the screws and then a quest for new ones to replace the scratched ones. I know it sounds basic, but you don't really notice the marks until the next day. ugh!
Enjoy the wheel and the wheels. Adam |

Good advice re horn relay
A useful tool here is a steering wheel lock ("club" thingy) to enable you to hold the wheel you go at the nut on the column without winding lock on the rack. Its a ***** to get these straight on the spindle- be sure you do otherwise you end up pulling it off, putting on, whcih inevitabley marks up the wheels and screws as posted above. Good idea to mark very accuratelty dead centre on the spindle and wheel hub when you remove reinstall. Put the boss on first stuart |

Thanks for the link. Why they couldn't have included that graphic in the box I'll never know...

Don't forget to take the horn contact clip off the bottom of the factory hub and mount it to the bottom of the Momo hub. I believe it is attached by two or three screws. It will be obvious once you get the factory hub off.

Wow bumping a really old thread here...
The diagram that lMason linked to shows a few parts besides the wheel and the horn. It shows the hub, a bellows, a ring that goes between the wheel and the hub, the steering wheel and the bolts. My question is this... I have a Momo Porsche logo horn that doesn't fit the hole in a Sparco wheel I have, a wheel I know is compatible size-wise with Momo wheels. It appears to me that the horn really should mount to that metal ring, not to the wheel. Does that ring come with the hub adapter, or should it be with the wheel? (Ie, I'm SOL)... Anyone know for sure? The wheel I have is from a friend and if I can't get the horn button to fit, I'll just give it back to him and buy a Prototipo or something, but this is saving me $200.

it comes with the hub adaptor, and will not fit without it! i know - just fitted one.
the horn is just a push fit in the ring, and the ring mounts (what looks like) upside down! this may be of interest: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=138526&highlight=idiots+guide
