Uh, if it was me, I'd go back out to the garage and have another good look at that beautiful 356. There's NO WAY I could let a car that nice go. Like the guy said... just MOVE!

Trade the Carrera. Keep the 356.
The Carrera and 993 are too similar. A 356 and a 993 provides wonderful variety.

Thanks for all the advice!
I have some thinking to do. The 993 is a private owner, so trading the Carrera is not an option. If the '56 ever goes on the block, I'll let you folks know. |

i vote keep the 356 as well. what a beautiful and unique example. i believe that you will regret selling it for certain. the issue of driving it more frequently does seem like a real one. as you correctly stated, these cars need to be driven. my buddy's 59 convertible d loves to be driven in anger as much as possible. not driving it for months at a time seems like a crime. the way i see it, you have to sell the twin plugged carrera, move to california and then buy a nice 993 with low miles. drive each of them whenever you want in weather that makes you want to take a drive.
just my two yen. db (former/current california resident living abroad)

Another (late) vote for keeping the 356. I understand everything you say (hell, I don't even like to drive my SC in the rain), but you really would regret selling something so utterly gorgeous, I think?

Well, it looks like the guy might not trade his 993 anytime soon after all.
I guess I am stuck with the 356.

"Should I trade my 356 for a 993?"
I don't know, should you? I've been thinking about posting in the 911 TECH forum about weather I should get the brown plaid drapery or the solid tan. What do you think???? The quilted ass-tissue or the plain? Sorry for the critisism, but the TECH forum seems wayyy too watered-down these days.

Actually, pretty funny. Whether you agree or not. |

It is a beautiful sunny day in Seattle.
Last week I detailed the '56, today I went for a spin. Everyone was right, it would be a shame to trade for a 993 (still need one though). The day may come, but right now, a little tinkering is ok.

I want to hear more about the 993. I wasn't clear whether it has 31,000 miles, the asking price is $31,000, or both? If the asking price is $31,000 I would be happy to bring it to a good home if you decided to do the right thing and keep the 356.

The 993 had 31k miles on it.... I believe the owner is looking to trade, but he guestimated about 46k for the car (as it is highly optioned).

Now in 993 land ...
|
Have you thought of it this way: How much will the 356 be worth in 10 years and how much the 993?
Drive the Carrera daily, keep the old SC and save some money to buy a 993 later. Then buy a higher mileage 993 that you can beat around and that won't cost as much... George |

Seth,
I have always thought of having a later model car as well......but I'm just not there. I am perfectly fine with letting my cars sit, starting them regularly, and driving them when I can.......it's more fun than having money in the bank, or mutual funds......but I didn't buy them for the investment to begin with. Note that if you decide to sell that car....it's worth quite a bit....current A coupe market is rising rapidly, and I just got back from a quick LA trip.....took a look at European Collectibles current stock, and they are asking big $$ for cars that are nowhere near the shape of your car. Regards, Eric Linden Seattle |
