I too live in the Pacific NW known for it's rain, and I drive mine 70 plus miles daily. There are times when I would like something modern with an electric defroster, but I wouldn't give up the 911 to get one.

No poofs eh (LOL). I still remember the phrase "pommy poofter" from one of the James Bond novels. Aussie intel guy was drunk and telling off 007 for being careless.

"Not that there's anything wrong with that" (for non Yanks, this is a Seinfeld telly reference).

I sold my one year old diesel Lupo (because I wanted to buy a Carrera as weekend car; I now commute by bus and train) and that Lupo is a great car: feels just like a "big" car on the inside (yet you know the size of it...)and, yes, it is e c o n o m i c a l. Really fun car, very quick off the traffic lights, quality build (OK, I'm not comparing it to an SC!).

I think you would be much better off buying a Lupo for your day-to-day "business" and your SC for what it's best at: dry weather fun distances.

I'd say stick with the SC.

Invest a few K in getting if sorted (new seals etc) and see how it goes.

As they were designed as daily cars then with a bit of care and attention there is no reason why they cannot be used in this fashion.

The fun facotr alone would be worth it.

AS for money, run a few numbers as to costs of the Sc versus depreciation, additonal insurance road tax etc with the Lupo.. you might be surprised.

If I could use the 911 everyday I'd much prefer to but living in Central London without a garage makes it a no-no.

If you get water in the car you either have SCARY rust problems $$$$ or you need your rubber sealings replaced. Denmark gets its fair share of rain too and I don't get water inside the cabin. Knock on wood.

I'd say keep the SC and commute with it during spring and summer. For winter you could find yourself an old Golf II or similar (to avoid rust on the 911). They are cheap to buy and very very cheap in parts and upkeep. This winter I've been driving around in a 1989 Golf II Diesel with 309000 KM's on the counter. It's a beater, but it starts and runs ok. It drinks quite a bit of oil, but nevermind that as long as it goes.

BTW the guy I bought my Porsche from got himself a TT Coupe 225. He had it for a year and then gave it back to the dealer. The car was nothing but trouble.

What's a poof btw? (At work, no dictionary within reach)

I noticed, Paco (but for ONCE we have sun over here, and you don't....I wanted to be real CRUEL to you, amigo).

Mikkel,
=without prejudice=
Quoted from Collins dictionary

Poof (or "poove") British slang. A male homosexual (from French "pouffe" puff)

Pooftah or poofter Chiefly Austr. slang. A man who is considered effeminate or homosexual.

And now that the Collins has clarified matters, I personally consider any references to one's sexual preferences may well be considered quite offending by/to some, so it would be better to drop those kind of references altogether...

I already have a Golf II at the moment - very reliable - but my "wife" uses that most of the time.

Mikkel - a poof's the same as someone who bats for the other side or travels on the other bus. I hope that's made it clearer.

Ah, the correct spelling is either "Poofter" or "Poofta" (short "a" sound), depending on how you want it to sound. Imagine a few drunken Australian Cricket fans screaming: "You're a bloody poofta, mate!" at unassuming tourists in a bar somewhere and you get the picture. I know, it's funny but very embarassing at the same time. I should worry that when that word comes up, 94.6% of Pelicans associate it's origin and use with my countrymen.

"Poofter" isn't necessarily always used to shame someone for their sexual preference. It's also often used as a term of endearment.

Oh, uh.. back on topic, use the car! I'm switching careers very soon (giving up my cushy company car - pooftamobile ) and intend to use my '76 as a daily driver until I'm forced to buy a beater.
