No no - we want you to keep on keepin' on.... and to reverse engineer Google's search engine for the catalog search. [Yes, I'm ignoring the implication in the post].

And did you notice that Zeke was able to quote my post before I had actually gotten it posted?? Huh, so maybe the cool collar is really really effective....

1982 911SC Targa 133K miles. Runs hot - at the 10 o'clock mark / last of two white lines before red on temp guage when cruising 80mph for an hour plus in 80 degree heat (northern California). Drove from North Lake Tahoe to Sonoma during middle of day August 8 (100-105 in Sacramento) at 80 mph temp was running in between that last white hash mark and the red zone. No A/C running. Oil up to level.

So, I have obtained the marker light air scoop and cool collar.

Will try the scoop first to see if I even have flow in trombone. (small dent in line just at rear of front wheel well). Cooler = flow. Still hot = Thermostat?

Then the COOL COLLAR !! Hell, its cheaper and easier than new trombone or Carrera upgrade.

So well see. I'm your test.

Wayne, if I'm cooler, I need paint job funding. If I'm not, I want my $$$ !!

Either way, this BBS rocks !

- Doug

(is it a driver or a restoration project??? whatever, it's damn good fun. Reunion with Grizzly Peak and Tilden last Sunday, wow, what a car....)

Very, very good. The Flat Earth Society of 911 Owners, otherwise known as the FESWDP, believe if you sail in a circle, and do not cross the fifth corner, you will be safe.

I think a great idea would be to run the right side shroud-to-heat exchanger hose to the cool collar, surround it with a shroud, then back down to the heat exchanger. That way the cool collar is vented outside, and doesn't use any extra power from an auxiliary fan. The fins should be radial, and run the hose in one side and out the other.

Actually, the cool collar is not a bad idea, it just was never finished. What it needs is a small 12v. fan attached at the end blowing air thru an outer shroud and vented outside the engine compartment. That way, lots more heat would be removed from the oil/filter and the engine would not have to suck up the extra btus. With forced air moving over the cooling fins, the temperature delta or differential would be greater and therefore the flow of heat would be greater. The only remaining question is would be does the energy required to generate the extra current used by the fan creating more heat than it is removing? Anyone feel motivated to experiment? One word of caution, don't get it too efficient or you could freeze the engine compartment!

Wouldn't that large fan on top of the motor be enough to move air throughout the engine compartment? It's not directly on the filter, but at crusing speed, the fan should be moving fast enough to really get that air in the compartment to move.

To me, the cool collar has become part of the "essence" of this community. A bonding agent. Call it a JB Weld for the pelicanites. It's like that bunny w/ a pancake. Whether it helps or not, there are two things that are certain: 1.) seeing one does make me smile (sometimes laugh out loud, remember the thread where it was a muffler cooler, coffee cooler, and transmission cooler?), and 2.) that it WILL cut you up sooner or later.

I don't have one, but I'm a big fan. If I find some finned material lying around, I'll make a homemade one and put it on (when no one's watching.) Until then, I'm still waiting for someone to put a yellowbird-style cutout on their passenger side fender and feed the air right at it.

Thanks for the entertainment. Long live the collar.

Maybe it is just me.... but when someone feels the need to bring up education degees when it is irrelevent to the subject it reduces thier credibility.
I have not made up my mind on the cool collar. I think real data is needed, not a subjective " it's cooler" from someone who may be giving into the placebo effect.

"need to bring up education degees"

- I don't think it is irrelevant. It is simply a stmt. of expertise. That is a valid argument, tho it science always favors a sell-controlled experiment over an assertion of expert opinion. But without that, I'd next go to the opinion of an expert. Also, he has at least one engineering degree. I don't know what the other is in, but it's not likely education.

A Cool Collar should absolutely be used when running the high mount Turbo Tail Oil Cooler.

That's it. This thread is too much. It has convinced me to finally order one with my next order. Heck, I hardly ever open my engine lid anyway. No one will see, right? But what if I have to and someone sees it.
Maybe I'll just order one and keep it here on my monitor...

Hey... that's me!

The Cool Collar wouldn't fit onto my oil filter as there was too much other hardware in the way (darn turbo packaging). It sits gathering dust on my workbench.

In any case, I can cut it in half and strap both halves together...

I'll do it this weekend... and give you guys some real numbers.

BTW, every geek engineer (and I use 'geek' in a good way) I spoke with said it HAS to work at least a little bit.

Emission, great. I look forward to hearing your results.
I agree that it has to transfer some heat, as posted earlier the point that is being argued is if it dissipates enough heat to make a noticeable or significant difference.
Keep us posted.

Please do. I still haven't even uncovered my car since my last post. Too many other priorities in life these days...
