I installed one last year. It did nothing for my oil temps.

It would appear that people who have done little or no cooling system upgrades seem to see 'improvement', although people swore their car was faster after installing the Tornado device, too. People who have extensively upgraded cooling systems seem to report no improvement, but that could be attributed that these people can't imagine how .30 worth of aluminum extrusion can trump $XXXX of oil lines and coolers.

i would submit from the sounds of most of these posts that the heat is 'transfered' to the pissed-off purchaser who realizes no residual value from this product. solution? roll down window to dissipate heat...

The big spal fan mounted under my intercooler keeps my cool collar very cool indeed.

How come the only people noticing zero improvement are those using accurate testing devices

and those noticing 5-10 degrees cooling are not using any type of pyrometer, other than the oil temp sending unit, which the last time I checked wasn't displaying down to the single digit, and I am sure most senders are 20 years old anyway

how much HP gain does the thing offer as well?

I read this thread and I DO have an advanced degree so I felt it necessary to respond. I believe that's a "POPIEL Pocket Fisherman". Okay, I'm banned.

I was having problems with my temp getting up to 210F and installed the CC for giggles. We tested the temp impact with an IR gun and it didn't make a degree of difference - looks ok though. It certainly does get warm, though. I ended up getting my temps over 30F lower through changing the pulley size and installing a later year shroud that has the oil cooler duct.

Well, from a simple thermodynamics point of view, the thing will work.

To start, the oil filter itself will transfer heat out of the oil simply by radiating heat to the cooler environment. This process can be enhanced slightly by the addition of the Cool Collar since it has fins allowing for a larger surface area. That much is not debatable.

The question is, how much is the heat transfer improved? Does it have any meaningful effect on the entire thermal mass of engine and oil? From the seat of my pants, I would have to say no (I do have an engineering degree too).

Additionally, if extra heat of measurable quantity is rejected from the filter via the CC's fins, where does it go? Right into the engine compartment where it is probably sucked up by the cooling fan and blown over the engine, thus reducing the overall efficiency of that system.

As my thermo teacher used to love to say, 'There's no such thing as a free lunch'. Or even a $30 one.

'There's no such thing as a free lunch'.
- except at absolute zero

- And you can't get to absolute zero.

- Well, actually you can but you cannot extract any work from the system. (and, as everyone who has had grad. students knows... it is all about extracting work from the system...).

The above are the Laws of Thermodynamics as I know them and as expounded to me decades ago by gravity wave researchers...
