Yes I did cover up the cooler but I probably could have painted it blue and it would have worked better than it did. It was so full of crud I couldnt tell if it was a 28 row cooler.

As far as blue hair goes the garage is set up for painting with intake and exhaust fans built in the wall, it sucked out the paint no problem-the clear on the other hand:D

It's funny you mention smurfs, that is how I describe the color to non p-heads (whats mexico blue?)

Yellowbird RS 09-25-2004 11:21 AM

very, very nice.

Today I got the fenders bolted on, and the most important items, the RUF emblems! Tomorrow we should get the bumpers, rockers, wing, H/L doors and RUF mirrors painted. Should be on the road by the end of the week.

Keep em coming! I love the status updates. :D

k9handler 09-27-2004 02:09 AM

wow...very nice! I like the looks of the black headlamp rings, but I am sure you have the painted covers ready to mount.

So what size cut did you use? :)

piedogger 09-27-2004 07:32 AM

Thanks guys! Yes it will have blue H/L doors but black does go really good with this color!

v9ff, sorry I forgot, I will try to remember today :D

piedogger 09-27-2004 10:36 PM

Today I installed all the seals and put on my RUF door sills. We had more prep work than anticipated so the rest of the parts will go to color tomorrow.

v9ff, The final slots were 1/2". We drilled them 7/16's so we could file it out. The bottom row from the license plate out are 71/4, 5, and 4 1/8. There is a 1 1/4 space between each slot. The middle row is 6 3/4, 5, and 5. The top row is 6 1/4, 5, and 5 7/8. It is basicly centered on the bumper.
We had about 20 different pictures of real yellowbird bumpers and a machinist scale to try to get it as close as possible. Hope this helps.

piedogger 09-27-2004 10:46 PM

Those measurments are outside so obviously you would want to make it about 1/4" short on both ends:D

k9handler 09-27-2004 11:04 PM

so you have the Ruf reflector replacement with the lights in it? Did Ruf sell all these parts or some other source?

EDIT: nevermind I think I see it sitting on the top of the wall lights. :D

piedogger 09-27-2004 11:28 PM

Actually It is a Gemballa that I shaved off the logo. I got it off e-bay for $200. Getting a good deal on the RUF one was going to be around $600. Good eye by the way!
I have a friend who is friends with Alois and he gets me most of my parts. I am hoping to get the seats next, My friend is over there right now and I am waiting for a call.

k9handler 09-28-2004 01:44 AM

Alois must be a pretty cool guy because I have never heard anything bad about him...in fact I was told his labor charge is not very significant when compaired to other Porsche mechanics in the area. One day I plan on taking my car to him for a few suspension tweeks and a corner balance.

piedogger 09-28-2004 10:42 PM

Painted the rest of the parts today including my helmet. Tomorrow wet sand and buff. Should be on the road Friday.:)

k9handler 09-29-2004 02:21 AM

very cool...I really like the mirrors and having the helmet match will be a nice touch. You have talent with the paint gun from what I can tell, thanks for the updates on this project.

piedogger 09-29-2004 08:07 AM

I wish, my friend is actually painting the car.

Eric Mckenna 09-29-2004 09:08 AM

Nice looking set up, must be nice to have friends in the loop with A. Ruf!
the rest of us pay a FORTUNE for that stuff. hahaha

piedogger 09-30-2004 11:12 AM

I went this morning before work, I got the rockers on, front bumper assembled and hung (still need to put on the seal) and the best part the RUF center caps!

Yellowbird RS 09-30-2004 11:17 AM

I love your project, but why you don't try the clear turn signal?
