Yes! Thanks Marcus dats da one. Sorry for my error. Have you driven it? Nice cruze eh?
|
Donny,
Yes, I pretty much learned to drive on Hwy 9. Mostly in a '74 BMW 2002. Haven't driven there in a while though so not sure if the traffic has picked up but it was a great drive! Skyline Blvd to 9, to Santa Cruz - a nice way to spend an afternoon. Regards, Markus '80 SC Targa |
My favorite drive came not in a porsche but in an audi rs6+ avant. Left my godparents house in evian and drove through switzerland into northern italy where I passed through a tunnel that must have been 20 miles long. Awesome stuff going into it and coming out on the other side. The border crossing from switzerland to italy was inside the tunnel, really cool stuff. Here in socal my favorite roads are angeles crest highway, 2, on a clear cool day not much can beat it i think. If not for that, highway 46 from the 5 to paso robles at night with no traffic is a blast, before you get to paso robles I turn onto highway 41 and cruise over to my grandparents, some gorgeous country I think and very nice twisty roads. Plus if you like golf and wine they have you covered.

I 405 through the Sepulveda Pass just North of Santa Monica....stunning, especially at 10 mph.
|
10 mph!? That's at noon. Rush hour is more like...3 mph.

I had a beat up Celica in the mid 80s at the wonderful age of 17, and had heard about people racing up in Mul. So, being young and stupid, we were also looking to get ourselves in trouble at 2 in the morning. We had heard of Porsches that loose cops up there. They just keep on going when they see light. When I got busted up there, I was just done with a meeting at a client's house. I just couldn't hold back at a couple of those turns. I know them so well, and there were no one in front of me. Stupid kid in us just never grow up. AS for roads, around LA, Azusa or hwy 39 is it for me. Usually quiet and no cops. |
up the coast highway 1 and into sonoma

WOW the cool thing about this thread is ....there is no wrong answer. ......I wanna drive all these roads :D
For me It would have to be the Blue Ridge Parkway. No high speed driving here but a very relaxing and beautiful drive, with no commercial vehicles. I have driven/ridden the southern section many times on a bike, have not made it to the other end, but now that I have P-car with a top and heater I'm gonna give it a go.(the weather changes with nearly every turn on the parkway) I really want to make it out west to the wide open spaces where you can see for miles and miles. Haven't been there since ........well, lets just put it this way,... the Beatles were still together when I lived in So. Cal. |

[B]WOW the cool thing about this thread is ....there is no wrong answer. ......I wanna drive all these roads :D We all love the highways and byways that let the P-mobiles do what they do best.... We're seeing some very cool roads posted. Some we might have taken and many more we would sure like to drive! I'm saving this thread for future reference. So many routes so little time... Thanks Pelicans. |
First of all, I hate all you people that live near good driving roads and yes that includes pretty much everyone in Cali, OK everyone that's not in Houston or other flatlands. :D
In Houston all we have is the occational cloverleaf or racetrack. My favorite driving road in Texas used to be Limecreek Road when I lived in Austin 20 years ago. I hear it's pretty built up around there now. My new favorite Texas road is RR337 near Leaky, Texas. Psst, don't tell anyone. |
Hmm, yep, I was just going to post that I have the occasional on/off ramp or U-turn under an overpass. Other than that every road in Houston is 200ft wide, flat and straight as far as the eye can see. Well, that may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but not much.
When I was in Seattle I went to Mt St Helens. Man, that's a good drive. Yep, out near Austin there are some sweet roads. |

One of my favorite's is hwy. 142 in Wa. state. travel up hwy. 14 along the Columbia river gorge( this road is pretty awesome, alot of twisties) from Portland east and before you come to Lyle turn left. You have just entered rally road extreme, goes along the klickitat river, when you get past Klickitat the road narrows to one lane and the fun begins, only problem to watch for is the big dropoff on your right, no guardrails. Pure driving joy. This is the easiest way to drive it cuz you are going uphill, going the other way, downhill is really exciting.
After you get out of the one lane you pop out to the wheat fields, rolling hills and big twisties, hold yourself back, rollercoaster heaven. Been driving this road the past 25 yrs, at the right times of day still empty. The scenery is great, the drive awesome and sorry no pics, got no time for that. |
+1 for AZ 89/89A, all the way from Congress to Flagstaff, an incredible drive. Once I finish the 2.5 R-ish project car, I'm hittin' 89 to do some 'bonding' with my baby:D . Hey Kurt & Donny, we should do a drive with the local Porsche guys, mine isn't running, but I can still bring the Coupe:D

Highway 1 in California south of Carmel and north of Big Sur. I drove it this January in a rented Jaguar S-Type 4.2L. I had to pull over a few times to take in the scenery, since I almost wrecked when trying to look.
OK New Englanders, what are you favorite drives here? (Note, I just moved here less than two months ago.) |
Here's a pic of my car on my favorite local road:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1124225473.jpg I just had a thought (take cover), there are some incredible roads throughout yellowstone park, full of twisties ans scenery but the speed limit is 45 and the tourists make it tough to hit that mark. What if they rented out the park so we could hold rallies through the place? I bet we could have a blast ripping up those narrow roads in the P-cars. Sure it's silly but it's better than working. |
mpwrcpe,
Sounds good, there a LOT of 911s in this town... |
right now, i'd have to say stunt rd. from mulholland hwy up to schueren and then piuma rd. thats a nice curvy stretch. although i am always driving with the intent of finding new roads.
