Creaturecat,

We drove from Calgary to Vancouver this april then came home on the cost to LA. Too bad it was in my SUV. All the way through to BC I was thinking only if I had...... the damn Porsche insead. Oh man, beautiful country up there.

The run we did this year from UK to Le Mans in France. The roads in France are incredibly quiet, smooth, road work free and dry. Awesome!!

My favorite drive: Redwood/Pinehurst Rd. as well as Skyline Blvd in Berkeley, CA (bay area). The good thing: I ONLY LIVE 2 MILES AWAY!!! :D I drive it almost every day too.

Very nice Doug! Your East Coast route is incredible! Ain't America a wonderful place to discover?

racemor 08-17-2005 09:16 AM

I'll have to second a couple of these posts. I used to live about 2 miles from the blue Ridge Parkway in Boone. A great road especially when it's not tourist season. It used to be 20 minutes of my 40 minute commute to work.

The other would be the Carmel to Big Sur Section of Hwy 1. Wow! nothing like that over on the East Coast for scenery. We stayed in Big Sir to attend the Monterey Historics in 99. Best drive in to a race track I've ever had.

I love 421 under Grandfather Mountain near Boone and a couple of little local roads in the area. But the tourists and population boom has taken a lot of the fun away. For working up a sweat while driving a public road, Deal's Gap on the NC/TN border has to be the best. Check the link:

Nothing like a quick early morning trip over Independence Pass in to Aspen, CO. Then on to Woody Creek Raceway for a DE.

Those were the days!!!

A moment of silence for "those days!!!" We made many a run up from Santa Fe to ski Aspen when the roads were less traveled. We loved Buttercup...

It's funny that you post photos of the Blue Ridge Parkway, because my dad got pulled over for doing 60 in a 45 a few years ago. Lol. I remember that day clearly.

72doug2,2S 08-17-2005 11:52 AM

Agreed, you can't run flat out up there. So far I have never seen a park police on the first 20 miles of the Parkway, but I understand they are federal employees, thus a federal offense? I love the views up there and the turns are what puts a grin on my face

MOMO3.2 08-17-2005 12:12 PM

For mind blowing visuals, the road to Hana on Maui is stunning. One spends most of the 4+ hour drive at 20mph or less, but the view is worth it.

As a SoCal native, I have to echo the sentiments of "72doug2,2S" and say the Blue Ridge Parkway is amazing. It is very different from what one finds here. The grass is mowed along the shoulders, even in isolated areas. I also never saw a trace of tagging, valdalism, or litter along the route. It was a shock to walk into a public restroom and find it clean and tidy.

Definitely the Tail of the Dragon, nothing like it.

Well since I'm most likely your neighbor, anytime you want to go in search of new roads just let me know.

My best drives in the USA: Highway 1 California, Mullholland (all of it in my opinion), Sunset between the 405 and Beverly Glen (great banking).

Best drives ever:
I agree with Porschekid962: Switzerland. Lived there with my Swiss wife and loved all the back roads that connect all the little villages (german part, french part, and Italian part). Only problem in Switzerland is that I did not have a Porsche.

Always great fields, great mountains, great lakes, etc.,etc.
Only problem is tons of hidden police cameras.

Central to Southern Spain is awesome. It is like driving through the Mohave Desert with white-walled villages. Gorgeous.......

Italy for speed. Drove from Lugano Switzerland down to Bolognia for the San Marino GP. No matter how fast I drove, I was always getting flashed to let people pass. I guess when you are in the land of F-cars you should expect that.

WORST DRIVE: Los Angeles in last 5 years, and mornings into the Lincoln or Holland Tunnel in NJ.:( :)

#1 Tail of the Dragon (NC) and #2 US1 (Big Sur CA)

Yep, #142, but then there is another one close by. Keep going East on #14 past the #97 Junction to Roosevelt, turn left towards Bickleton. A really steep climb and then fields, no traffic and let it rip. :D

aknapp 11-12-2006 08:39 AM

US16A in the Black Hills of South Dakota, south of Mt. Rushmore. Pigtails, one-lane tunnels, switchbacks...it's a blast!

Far less traffic outside tourist season (before June or after September) = :D :D :D

Gunter 11-12-2006 09:28 AM

Uta #12 from the start (Bryce Canyon) all the way thru Escalante to where it joints up with I 15, then turn around and go back to Bryce Canyon. :D :D

Then #89 towards Flagstaff and don't forget to turn off to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for a swim in the Colorado River.

Okay, I know I'm responding to a post that's over a year old, but I love the graphics on this car. I'd been considering a bold two tone diagonal similar to this, so it's neat seeing it.

Stijn, if you're still checking in and read this, do you have any more pictures of this car?

Yes! The old Mulholland International Raceway. The Grandstands portion is my favorite, where can see for a good half mile through the S sections.
