Exactly what I was thinking... H1s in good condition are very hard to source and NLA from the factory. I had to go with H4s in the end - still great light output (probably better than H1s), just not "period correct".

On the bright side, it's a repair that doesn't require a couple of weeks at the shop...

what are the internal differences between the h-1 and h-4? could i put a h-4 on oneside and a h-1 on the other without having a noticable difference?

i have posted a want to trade in the classified for my single h1 for a set of h4's if any of you guys know somebody on the early s board that might want to get in touch.

this gets to be a bigger pain in my ace by the minute.

Externally (and to an untrained eye) the H1 and H4 lights are very similar.

The differences are mainly on the inside. The H1 has 2 separate adjustable lenses - one for high beam, and one for low beam; and accordingly 2 globes - one for high, and one for low.

H4s have one single lense and one globe with 2 filaments - one high beam and one low. It is technically less complex, and easier to change globes.

Other differences are in the actual glass lenses; these assist in focussing the light so accordingly they are a little different between H1 and H4.

No - steering wheel on wrong side for me down under. The photo's were sent to me a while back. Don't know who the poor owner is - must have been a hell of a shock when it happened.
