This isn't a great map, but it's turn 11, near where it says Guest Services.

Can you provide any insight into what happened prior to where the photos start?

It's a straighforward braking zone. To get the exit right, you have to go very deep into it, heading straight toward the tires, then rotate the car so you can hit a late apex on your way out. My problem was very simple: I started braking way too late.

Thanks for the map and the explanation. I bet your in-car video is "hair raising."

it is little consolation, but I almost overcooked that corner a number of times...and I wasn't carrying near the speed that Jack was. It is sneaky, I think in part due to the color of the tire wall and the area behind the wall that you see in your peripheral vision.

Sorry, nothing to add here ...just comments.
Very interesting thread! From the beginning of this thread, I refrained from asking the obvious (because of my intermediate driving skill) and waited until it was asked and responded to: i.e. the "apparent" lack of steering correction and "obvious" locking up straight toward the tires. Glad it was answered in clear, measured responses. Makes great sense ...Thanks Ted and Jack! I will add that to my driver's tool kit. And also to Jack, I appreciate your candor in the pics and the posts, especially since you offered me kind words of consolation not too long ago when I had posted my off at T9 at Big Willow. Since I have no reputation to defend (on the track or off ), I have no ego and so am always willing to hear constructive criticism on my driving ...all in the desire to be a better driver. Hope to meet you in person at the track one day! ...no man crush here LOL!!!Peace all! Edward

Ya know, this Porsche Bob/Jack Olsen thing is really bizarre. The more I think about it, the more I am puzzled, and the possibilities are endless.
Both are pretty good writers . . . which leads me to wonder: Jack, did you create Porsche Bob in order to get control of the rampant man crush phenomena of which you appear to be the object? If you did, that is pretty clever indeed. You might even be able to write a script about it. On the other hand, you might inadvertently increase your stature by maintaining class, grace and dignity in the way you respond to Porsche Bob, which would cause the strategy to backfire. In any event, it is pretty entertaining. You don't see this type of thing at the other boards I have visited. Cheers!

Man crush. That's funny. And true at the same time. Sometimes real life is funnier than fiction and it just takes a sharp mind with the insight to spot it. Two thumbs up to you, TD, for your insightful wit.

I have been simply watching from the sidelines, but have put a bit of thought into this. What it comes down to, for me, is that-
Jack Olsen has earned my respect. Several people here have way more knowledge than I about all things Porsche, and share it freely. It's not about post count, but what those posts have contained. Would I have dared stuff a 3.2 into a 1973 body without the help recieved here? Don't know for sure, but this place has helped greatly. To have access to input from guys like Jack, Warren, John Walker et al, is valuable to me, and these guys, and many others, have simply earned respect because of their contributions. Hopefully some of my posts have helped others in the same way. When a "newbie" comes along and starts poo-pooing the people that have earned respect, What results should we expect? -That the lemmings all disregard all that has gone on before, and agree that Jack is now the king of poo? -That a guy who does not have a history of contributing technical information is automatically entitled to the same level of respect as those mentioned above? -Or maybe, just maybe, he does not feel respected for some unknown reason? Let's see.... I'll have to put some more thought into this and get back to you. |

Well, at least we all have that Christmas spirit working pretty well now.
Hark, the herald angels sing...

Someone, like Jack, who has submitted a large number of (subjectively) high-quality posts, will generally have a higher "worth" than someone like PB, who has submitted a very low number of (subjectively) meaningless posts. Someone who has submitted a large number posts can still be of low worth, if the vast majority of those posts are subjectively worthless. Too many people have an over-inflated sense of self-entitlement... just because you sign up for an account in a free forum, don't expect or demand to be taken the same way as someone who's put in their time and has contributed to that forum. If you want "in" to the "upper ranks", earn it. Otherwise, deal with it. Just because it's a virtual world doesn't mean that a lot of "meatspace" rules don't apply. $0.02 Last edited by jeffgrant; 12-17-2005 at 06:33 PM.. |
