Hey Tim good to hear you had your beast back at the track.
Bummer about the CDI.
Remember if you pack your spares to the track chances are better you won't break those parts.
At least you had a trailer, imagine if you didn't.
I want to hear/see the in car video of your 914-8 beast, how much hp/torque?
Keep us updated on your car. I know you are real close to great track day with a $150 race gas bill.

I like your explanation of T8, you sir are a fearless passenger.
You might make a great world rally navigator!

Thanks for the compliments on the car. The green is a little sedate, avoided the brighter colors in favor of a street stealth look.
I plan to drive mine to the local AX to hopefully de-bug unforeseen issues before my next track weekend.

Yeah, I don't have a spare ignition and should know better from all the roundy-round stuff I used to help with... I may just see if Crane will rebuild this unit and then buy a backup. I intended to get a backup but didn't expect it to fail after only 6 track days and not even full ones at that!

Exactly, and I tend to have gone racing by myself which is always sketchy if you have an issue (hard to push the car on a trailer alone!!! So having my buddy and his friend along made life much less stressful, and I got to ride along at least in one that was working...

At sea level it was 525HP/438lb-ft, but at altitude it is probably way down, maybe like 450-ish or so. Still felt strong but I could actually tell it took a little longer to go through 2nd gear than before - at Willow 1st was a split second, then 2nd was almost instantaneous too. Here it drew on 2 for a bit. Still hit 125 in the straight instantly and just cruised to the end... my buddy's crazy turbo Volvo could barely get over 100 in the whole straight.

Actually I am really scared of being a passenger, I only rode with you and Jack after I saw you guys could run solid times with no excursions...

Good luck - take 2 of everything

Tim better schedule another track day soon, your car is ready to rock.
My wireless winch is something you might put on your list.
Get back out there we need some track photos of you in the 914-8.

Couple photos from the 1st track event with new paint.
This was POC at the Fontana/Cal Speedway infield.
Had a blast. Best lap 1.12.17 on Kumho 710s.
1st 3 by Peter C2 on the Pelican board/POC member and the fourth by POC member Steve Ruckmick.
Thanks for the photos!

Just thought I add a movie of a lap at the local short track, Streets of Willow.
Go straight to the link and if you care the following is a discription of the track and car.

One Lap at Streets of Willow.

Fun track to practice left foot braking.
Which I did on every corner except where I had to down shift, and then after a down shift my left foot would be over the brake pedal again.

It's in car video from my STREET LEGAL white and green 69 911T rebodied as a 1997 993 EVO2 interpretation.
2800lb total. 2400lb car + 400lb for driver and passenger.
300 rwhp non VR 3.6 on 100 unleaded. Super Cup cams, Carillo rods. custom chip, shifting at 6800rpm.
Close ratio 915 with a custom WEVO shifter and all of Haydens 915 upgrades too.
935 suspension front and rear with coil overs and double adjustable JRZ shocks.
Turbo brakes, 23 mm M/C with brake pads Pagid oranges in front and blacks in the rear.
Tires DOT legal Kumho 710 front 275/40/17 on 10.5 rims and on the rear 335/35/17 on 13 inch wide rims.
Full cage with front and rear suspension tie ins, 27 gallon fuel cell, N2O air jacks.
Raised (adjustable for rear bump) rear control arm pick up points and 2.5 inch raised spring plate arm pick up points ( like the old 935s did).

You can follow the track map, this lap is clockwise and the movie starts at the begin of the front straight. We are using the full length track with the bowl and skid pad.

It's always looks slower on video.

On the track the extra weight of the passenger really is noticeable on braking and cornering. Maybe 2 seconds a lap slower with the passenger. But it was a blast and on this day I never went out alone, more than 10 different passengers joined me for 6 to 8 laps each.
Best,
Mike

Ted,

The in car video does not look "slow" at all.... it looks like a blast. Are you still running the stock lifters or did you convert over to a solid lifter set up? Oh, and whats your RPM like on the highway?

Thanks Herman, over the last couple years all my car specs have been scattered over the Pelican BBS. Maybe it's time to consoladate the specs.
On the freeway I drive 65mph just over 3,000 rpm.
Not a date car with the whine of close ratio gears and the wide tires catching road irregularites.
The street mufflers work well.

For the engine…
Stock compression.
Super cup cams with 964 style cam gears should give it a small boost.
Custom chip, Nology wires and coil amplifiers with the stock induction and jet hot coated headers.
Very light intake blending, stock size valves with heavy duty valve springs and titanium retainers.

Other mods…
Everything has been balanced.
Carrillo rods and dowel pins installed in the case.
RSR solid rockers replace the stock hydraulic style rockers. Windage mods, boat tailed case and cylinder bases and piston skirts machined for windage purposes as well.
Light weight flywheel and Center Force clutch.
Pardon me if I am less than technical here…
The top of the pistons and the valve face surfaces received heat barrier treatments.
The Piston sides received a lubrication treatment.
The Valve springs and retainers received a Cyro treatment.

This graph shows the HP and Torque curves.

Here is the HP and AF graph.

Here is a colorful gear ratio graph.

Thread bump from the dead... reading this thread has been an absolute treat. I recently picked up a John Simone 911 just like the one in this thread (in fact it was John Simone’s personal 911 race car!).

Having the sibling to the 911 in this thread... I cannot express how much fun of a car it is to drive at her limit! John did an absolutely fantastic job building each of these.

For those curious, here are a few videos of her on track at Blackhawk Farms Raceway last week:

Your EVO is perfect no doubt.
Nice videos too, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful location for a track!
Our cars both were hand built in John's shop.
I sold my EVO body and went for a vintage RSR look.
With John in his shop.
Spent many Saturdays working in his shop on my cars.
Please do update this thread with more videos and updates.

A few of us ran his EVO for years.
The yellow one was the most developed with a water cooled race engine now.

I love it. Curious, what ever wound up happening with yours?

And John is such a good dude. I owe him a 12-pack once I make my way back out to San Diego. He and I must have spoken for 5+ hours before and after I picked up the car and he has since filled me in on all of the background behind the various sibling cars he built, including the yellow one. What astounds me the most is this isn't his day job either. Truly a dude that has enormous talent and passion as the build quality and craftsmanship of the car is top top notch.

Also, a quick sidenote/change of subject as several folks have reached out to ask about the green Vermont plate in the photo...
Story short: She IS now registered, plated and technically street legal by way of using the 'Vermont Loophole'.
Longer story: Despite living most of her life as a track-only race car w/o a title (lost years ago); since she's more than 25 years old and was originally a street vehicle with a VIN, the 'Vermont Loophole' allowed us to register/plate the car, despite not having the title.

I was skeptical at first, but others swore by the loophole and said it was legitimate. To my surprise, so long as you fill out the paperwork correctly, send the proper documentation, along with a check; the great state of VT will gladly accept your 6% VT sales tax in exchange for registering/plating your car.

We've obviously had to retrofit her with headlights, running lights, wipers, and everything else to make a car street legal in IL (minimal since she's vintage). But now that she's all set; when she's not driving to, on and from the race track, she can often be found at various Cars and Coffee meetups so long as it's a warm weekend. Unfortunately that season is coming to a close and she'll be heading into hibernation for the next 6 months (Unless some kind hearted fellow P-car enthusiast in a warmer climate near a track has extra space in their garage over the offseason?? Looking at you COTA, Road Atlanta, Sebring, Laguna, Willow Springs )

I sold the EVO body to Pelican up in LA that answered my Pelican for sale ad.

Mine was street legal too.
I had one set of front fenders made very light for racing.
A second set was a bit heavier and those had headlights installed.
So I would switch front fenders occasionally.

The first time I drove it on the street I entered the freeway and right behind me was a police car.
I thought for sure I was going to get pulled over within 2 miles of my first drive on the street.
Luckily I never got pulled over and enjoyed driving the 911 over 20 years with 4 different bodies on it.
