Head Studs
I'm the proud new owner of a '77 911S with 88000 miles. I'm concerned about the condition of the head studs. I don't know if they have been changed out or still original. Is there some way to check these guys without removing and disassembling the engine?
I have noticed one cylinder appears to have a oil leak at the base where it fits into the block. I read in a previous post a leak of this manner could be a sign of stud problems. All other cylinders are bone dry. Thanks for any help. |

It's easy to check your head studs ... remove the valve covers and if one is broken it will probably just fall right out.
If you can spin one by hand, you broke one. I think on your car, there is also an issue of "pulling" a stud, and I'm not sure if that's as obvious. With an oil leak on one cylinder, I'd be more worried about that than breaking one. Let us know what you find. Vic 87 930 |

If your oil leak is from the cylinder closest to the transmission (on right hand side), oil can come from the host that runs from the oil tank back to the engin.
