Momo Allen Head help
This should probably go under the "admit your stupidity" post, but I need some ideas. Installed my new Momo Fighter Steering wheel last night, and striped one of the allen head bolts. The screw was 3/4 of the way in when it got bound up. Not wanting to force it, I figured something must be off, and went to loosen it. When I went to loosen it, it stripped.
It's one of those tiny #4 allen head screws, and it's about 3/4 of the way in there. Any ideas on how to get it out, without marring up the brand new steering wheel? I did a search, but mostly people were talking about bigger bolts that you could get a socket on , or weld to. No such luck here. Any ideas will be most appreciated. Thanks

I am assuming that by saying you stripped one of the allen head bolts, you are refering to the allen head socket in the top of the bolt.
Vice grips are the sure cure to the stripped allen head. Of course you will have to replace the bolt, and possibly have to chase the internal threads; depending on the reason the bolt bound up (cross threaded or galled) Hope this helps...

since it is only 3/4 of the way in, just grab it with vice grips. Tape up your wheel first to protect it.
Also you could cut the extra off from the rear by slipping off the boot which covers the wheel adaptor. At least on mine, I can see the little machine screws threaded in place. Doug

You could dremel a slot so you can back it out with a screwdriver, if you dont have enough to grab with vise grips.
tape up the wheel first for safety

If none of these options work, just drill out the center of the allen until the head falls off, then remove with vise grips.

The safe way to do it is to cover your steering wheel, and then drill the center with a very small drill bit (That is smaller in diameter than the threads on the screw) dont go down too deep. Then go to pepboys (or what ever auto parts store is handy) and get you a small easy out. This will look like a drill bit in a way but has left hand threads. put this in the hole and begin turning it to the left with a small cresent wrench. If you do have room channel locks would be easier, but if not this will do the trick. Note: if you guys are not aware of these, they make them in all sizes big and small, come in very handy when you have say a broken bolt that goes into a aluminum block etc....

I just got some screw removers from craftsman. I have not tried them yet and do not know if they will work on allen head screw's. I think they are fairly new on the market. Not sure if this helps? I would do the vise grip first. Good Luck!!
