Pelican?? Cibie Hood Lights

There is someone offering reproduction of the Cibie Hood Lights.

Wayne / Pelican, please track these down and offer them for sale to your loyal followers.

At $300 a set, I would buy one now and one later.
At $500 a set, I would probably have to buy one soon.

I totally agree. If I could buy them here, I'd buy a set immediately.

Went back a looked at the ebay listing. The guy has a good rating.

Looks like he sold two sets already. I am not going to get in a bidding war so will track it but I really want a set.

It looks like he is putting two sets on at a time so there should be more.

Do a history search for completed listings... He has sold 29 pairs at a "Buy it now" price of $495 dollars! Bidding higher on his current listings doesn't make sense because he has already shown his price to make his profit.

Obviously he has a source. I spent about 1/2 hour running various combinations of, "Citroen pièces DS reproduction lumières boule" through google.fr without coming up with anything.

Maybe being able to read French would help...

Oh and looking at the quantity he has sold I would look out for 'perfect NOS' sets that are painted light blue...

I have bought a pair of these.

Shipping to Australia took about 2 weeks. They were extremely well packed and are damn good!! Very hard to pick these from originals.

Very good value at $500 IMHO

Cheers, Cam

Rene has made a great job reproducing these lights. He is now looking into making the yellow covers that are so hard to find and terrebly expencive.

can or do these also get mounted to the grills or are those lights the grill lights?
obviousley they go on hoods, but in addition to that, due to their angular base, can or do they possibly get mounted else where?
maybe you need to get an attaschment to mount elsewhere?
also, can you get e protective grill for these like used on these period headlights?
thanks,
Bob

Would also like to find a source for grill mounted lights.

Ok, the ebay auction ended and one guy just bought both sets for $810 & $721.

Got an email back from the seller, shipping is about $50 on top of the price.

It would be nice to find the source for these. Once most people have a set, then the prices will come down considerably. They probably cost about $200 or so to make in Asia or somewhere like that...

If he is getting $500 to $800 there will be more.

If a fake Rolex sells for $40 in Mexico, I bet everything except the bulb would cost about $40 a set to make in China. Just need to find the right agent. It looks like no one is trying to defend any design rights.

Traded emails with a Cibie importer he did not seem to concerned. Responded positive that there were repo's as the origials were trading for such a high price.

After speaking to a guy that has eye balled them and is in the 'know' about Cibie I just purchased a pair via Ebay from Rene for $495.00 BIN + $50 ship to see for myself how they compare to originals. I suspect with bid prices $721-$810 good business practice would dictate the $495 BIN price to rise or disappear.

If these are repros, then if you sell out, then you simply make more. These are very cool lights, but despite their "coolness", they are not *that* popular for most cars. Nothing like the H4 upgrades themselves.

If anyone knows of the manufacturer of these, let me know. What does that label inside the lamp say?

I have had about 15-20 sets of original Cibie Pallas hood lights, 3 of the sets where NOS. These repros are 99,9% perfect. Every little bend in the metal, micro spot welds in the front of the bucket and especially the lens and reflector parts are amazing. Even the sticker in the bucket and the paint stamp on the back of the reflector are correct which made me think they where originals. The only thing I have found to be "wrong" is the rivet in the back of the bucket should be brass, and the color of the primer is slightly blue, the original was more grey or brown for the late Valeo production.

I have looked into making these in China a year ago, but gave up, they would have been to expensive. Rene has solved the problems I had by using several manufacturers for the different parts.

The guesstimates made on what the production cost for these are is way too low.

John
