So, had the new chip put in today, only to find out that the car had a "Protomotion E-Prom" already in. Any one heard of this? It has some hand written stuff on the sticker. The date was from 01/08/00. Rest is a little hard to make out. I can not say that I notice a big difference in power with the SW chip, but the car seems to run much smoother, and quieter....
Thanks! Rod

WOT power is nice but street cars really don't run at WOT much so tuning PartThrottle is really where you want an expert to concentrate when building/tuning chips for these cars. Steve knows this area well.

The very first thing I did after I got my car about 6 weeks ago was order a Wong chip (set up for premuffler) and M&K premuffler. I haven't managed to get the old cat off yet, but even so, the throttle response from the chip was amazing. I hope to get the premuffler on this weekend. I got a new O2 sensor also - I figure the old O2 sensor would be too hard to remove, given the difficulty in removing the cat. maybe two weeKs of PB Blaster will help. The chisels and grinder and drill will be at the ready if all else fails.

Nobody knows anything about this "Protomotion" Chip?
Thanks! Rod

The easy way to learn about the Protomotion chip and your car is to put the car on a dyno and look at hp, torque and (maybe most importantly) the air/fuel ratio through the rpms to see how it's managing the engine. Then do the same with the Steve Wong chip.
The great thing about Steve's chips is the relentless R&D he keeps putting into the programs for them -- and the custom nature of a chip that's programmed to match your car's specific components. The Protomotion chip might be a great match to your engine and exhaust, or it might not. Odds are, they don't customize them like Steve can.

I will buy my strut brace this winter from him(993) , I bought a set of wheels, I bought 3 chips, he remapped me one after I installed the bypass, this is the guy we need to buy from. He's a pro, takes the time to explain, himself, he called me to explain.....+1 to Steve

So would it be best to Dyno the car, and then send the results to Steve so he could tweak them?

My car came with a Weltmeister chip already installed.
I believe it was installed with the B&B headers/muffler system. Seemed to run fine, no real big issue. I saw a SW chip for sale here, and decided to try it. (the one for headers/cat-delete/sport muffler, 93 octane) I do notice the idle is a little higher at cold. The Welt would take a few seconds to smooth out the idle. The Wong is instantly smooth at 1100rpm. Otherwise, I don't really know if there is a big difference. It SEEMS there is slightly more pull when in the wrong gear (2000-3000rpm) but that may just be placebo playing tricks on me. The car still runs, and it's got a more popular chip, so it's all good. I'll report back again after a few more drives.
