Dave,
I would ask that you reconsider. You have made positive contributions to this community unlike the classic critic the forum has attracted lately.

For the critics out there brush up on your IP law before opening your mouth, and no just because it is on the internet does not make it fair game regardless of where it is.

It would be nice if someone could answer this. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, I'm asking what the rules are, and how are things identified as 'copyright', or 'not for reproduction without permission'.

This has gone too far off-topic. I 'll bow out now and post a thread where it belongs.

Anyway, My work is all done in Corel Draw (.cdr) format but I am able to save in other formats as well. I have had little experience with Paint Shop but would think it would be much faster and easier to edit in a dedicated Vector Based program like Corel or Adobe Illustrator.
BTW I appreciate the reply and am happy to help if I can.

Dave,

Thanks, I understand your initial reply and frustration, thank you for your contributions, I did not intend to "steal" even though I made a light hearted reference of it.

I had planned on using a solid background, I was just using yours because it emulated the gold foil look of the original decal. I will probably just use the graphics and text and print on to gold foil, stick that to the magnet.

This is too good an idea to lose now. The involved parties have agreed-nobody else's opinion really matters

So you think we can move foward on this decal without stepping on anymore toes?

So who came up wth the "Backside Valve Adjustment"?

Was it Joe Riley? If so maybe we need to add his name to the design.

Shane,
Forget about it OK. No problems here.
That is exactly what I did. I only used the fill to see what it would look like on gold foil. When I print I just remove the fill layer. Comments came back from one Pelican on a stickers I sent for evaluation was that the original foil color was a little greener and mine was more bronze. Not sure if this could be due to age or it was in fact a different color foil. The fix would be to change the gold fill layer and add a tint of green and print with that in place.
The other thing to remember is you will need and overlaminate or clear coat on top of the foil to make it completely chemical proof. I have tried both and either work well.

Good luck and I hope you get the support I initially had.
Dave.

It actually wasn't that hard to make a solid background, the border was just a bit touchy to get the right curvature in the corners. This is what I came up with;

I plan on making a variety of these, the factory stickers just arent doing it for me, I will purchase a set to go on just in case I ever decide to sell my car but I'm going to go with the whole fridge magnet thing for now.

Dave,

What type of clear did you spray over the decals? I was wondering because of the heat and oil in the engine bay?

Shane,
Funnily enough just the plain label clear coat available from hobby shops does the trick.
I have taken the liberty of tidying up your valve train illustration. You are welcome to use it if you think it works better. Just concerned about print quality and resolution.
Dave.

Absolutely it looks much cleaner. I was looking at the projects section of this forum and am thinking this might be better suited to post there as I will be working on other decals as well. I am just wondering how the projects section works.

My next decal is going to be the engine firing order diagram with a timing mark diagram depicting, TDC, 5 deg, 120 deg, and 240 deg with short instructions to set the distributor timing.

Other ideas;

Engine oil level check decal W/ recommended fluids (brake, gear, motor)
Tire Pressure and sizes (actual not factory)
Spark Plug and Gap Settings
VIN/Motor/Transmission #s

That should fill all six slots.

Shane and Dave,
Excellent work. Hands across the Pacific.
I didn't realize that turning 240 degrees worked out to 1,2,3,4,5,6. Easy to remember.

Shane....don't reinvent the wheel. If there are any components of this decal you can use let me know.

I think all the plates look great. If done in metal I have a pad printer machine that I could print them with.

EDIT...

watch the .00.3 inches on the label ... too many "periods" in there..... I'd suggest

.0030 ...same amount of significant figures as .0025

Lastly..in these globalized times, should we go dual scale ( 0.004" / 0.1 mm)...etc? Maybe at least to get to store-bought Euro shim thicknesses equivalent to 0.003 " and 0.0025" ?

Oh.... one more thing....

Can there still be a problem saying check # 1 when TDC / Z1 ? Couldn't we do this and find ( instead) # 4 ready for a check but not #1? I *think* you need to be at Z1... PLUS ... check dizzy pointer at proper place ...no?, ... to certainly be able to check #1 ?

Might be hard to find Euro equivalent - would be .0762mm and .0635mm. My quick search of Stahlwille feeler gauges came up with nothing between .05mm and 0.1mm. I'm sure something can be found though

EDIT: This place has a bunch and even makes custom ones:

Will,

I think it would look better also with the 1 in the check sequence as well, I will add that to the final edit.

Right, the rotor needs to point at the notch for #1 at TDC, once again I'm looking for a balance between what is common knowledge to most and trying to stay away from writing every step of the process.

A future project is to also do a Timing Decal that will explain the rotor and notch and the timing marks.

Good catch on the 00.30 extra . was a Typo, I will edit that.

Question;

if .0030" = .0762mm could I use .07mm as a NO GO
if .0025" = .0635mm could I use .06mm as a GO

or is this allowing to much of a margin for error?

Because ultimately we need a .01mm gap which is .0039"(.004")

My gauges have the standard marked on one side and metric on the other.

Shane

Update:

Prototype- printed paper, sealed with chemical resistant clear and affixed to magnetic background.

I could have done a little better trimming them, I will try printing on foil also.

I should be completed testing in about 2019.

Anyone want to trade a left side block heater block off for a custom set?
