Spraying the Blade ??

I have started to try clean up my engine now and im wondering if anybody here could point me in the right direction on spray painting the cooling blade ??

Or is it a bad idea ???

You might try a search. There are pages on polishing, powder coating, cleaning and painting the blades.

Painting doesn't seem to last that long. The magnesium doesn't seem to like paint.

I painted mine with corrosion inhibitor to try to get a stock look (I just snapped this pic this evening - my car needs a wash).

I spray painted mine with K-Mart Krylon 15,000 miles ago and it still looks just fine.

I found someone to powder coat it, would it be wise to get the engine tin-ware coated also ?? ?

Depending on your driving environment will have a lot to do with weather paint would last. Powder coat is definitly longer lasting. if you get the blade coated, you may need to cut the coating off the blade ends, I've heard of people that the fan scrapped with the think coating on the end. especially if you do the housing as well. Make sure it turns without scrapping anyting before final assemply.

Yes, they can mask & polish the Porsche script.

This one isn't mine.

I rattle caned mine in '98. The leading edges of each blade accumulate dirt. Other than that, it's still fine.

The fan may be worth powder coating (I did mine), but I'm confident that painting the engine tin would have been fine. It wasn't worth the extra $300 or so I spent on the tin.

For a rattle can job that looks great, and 10 years later.

What rattle can did you use and hopefully Cali hasn't made them change the formula.

I plan to go the electroless nickel plating route for both the fan & shroud.

Did you powdercoat that yourself. I have seen some other threads where peps have had some good luck with the Craftsman and Harbor Freight (eww) powder coating guns.

Thanks.

The paint wasn't anything special, Krylon from the hardware store. It's probably more important to clean and prep the base metal thoroughly. The center metal hub was masked off. I think 3-4 coats were applied.
