Is this correct?

Before removing everything to start grinding off all of the undercoating, I thought I would document what goes where. I'm fairly familiar with it, but then noticed that there are TWO items coming from one hole and none from the other. Can't remember what goes where, now.

Notice the items highlighted by the red arrows. One item seems to be the speedo cable, right? Not sure what the other is, but I don't think it belongs in the same access hole, does it?

Then there's the access hole highlighted by yellow. It's empty. Huh? Can someone help?

Kind of hard to tell from your photo, but the boot that is on the thin line doesn't look to be the correct size for the hole--the boot looks too large--yet, the boot looks too small for the large hole to the left. Could be the camera angle though. If the boot fits the hole the line exits, then that's most likely the correct passage and the other cable or line is misdirected. Obviously the boot only accomodates one line.
I don't think, if it's a speedo cable, that it fits into the other hole you identified. I've never worked with a speedo cable but I don't believe the nut is removable on either end so it wouldn't fit through the opening. It actually looks to belong where it is in the photo and the thin line is misplaced.
Just my observations. Someone who knows for sure will respond soon and clear up the mystery.

Yellow hole looks like e-brake cable. Speedo cable should be the only one coming through that hole. Not sure what the big line is. Is it a G-50 car? Maybe hydraulic clutch??

group911, you might be right on the yellow holes. I was thinking the cable beside it was the e-brake cable, but I just looked again and that's the heater cable. So, that mistery is solved.

For the red, here is another pic of the end of the wire. I'm thinking (if someone could confirm) the car (which is a 69) is set up for both mechanical and electronic speedo cables??? I'm just not sure because I've never worked on one with an electric speedo.

Anyone?

I'm pretty sure electronic speedo's started in 76, that appears to be an early (pre 85) electronic speedo sending unit, maybe the car had a later motor and tranny installed at some point in the past.

I think The Turk may have hit it.
If in your last photo you are showing the end of the "line" that passes through the boot, it very well may be an electronic speedo wire--not associated with a 69. Since it passes through the same hole as the mechanical speedo cable, it's probably a retro-fit that uses the same passage as the original set-up. Do you know the history of the car?

Chad Chili,
Would help if you tell us what car this is. '69? '74? Another one?

Sorry, I wrote it later, but not in the original post. Yes, it's the 69. It was a basket case that included a 915, but it wasn't installed. To be honest, I'm not sure if it was an electronic or mechanical tranny.

I think we've solved it. So, if it is, maybe I have the wrong speedo now since my tranny is mechanical. I will double check.

Thanks guys,
Chad
